i went to family dr today due to a tiny 1/4 inch bald spot on top left of my head, it was first discovered about a month ago when the hairdresser saw it. the dr said it is alopecia areata, and also notice small new hair started to grow in that bald area, the dr. said it was the immune system attacking the hair thinking it was an foreign object, but will regrow back in 4 to 8 weeks, or see dermatologist for sterile to suppress the immune system for quicker result. at the same time the dr. also gave me prescription for next routine blood work, i asked again about my interest to find out my hbv surface anti-body level, he said he can order the hbv surface anti-body quantitative test, but saying the number is meaningless to the dr., as long as my hbv-surface antigen is negative, and hbv-surface antibody is positive, which i am, then no longer need treatment, the dr. also gave me an analogy, it is like test for your blood type, just for yourself to know, in case of emergency, they will retest to confirm the blood type before blood transfusion. so i said ok for qualitative test instead of quantitative. am i really missing out on the hbv surface anti-body quantitative offer?
