A couple of minor updates;  I'm at week 58.  So is Cruel World.

I believe NYCMark has finished TX but still hasn't done his 6 month PCR.

Proactive is at week 62 or so.

And I think Bill1954 is either finished or very close to the 72 week mark.

I haven't seen Drofi post in a while and I know Mouse is retreating and I assume she's further along than week 6.

Hi Zazza,

I’m currently in week 71 of a scheduled 72 week treatment with 204µg  PEG-Intron and 2000 mg riba.

I meet with my Hepatologist tomorrow to review treatment, and see if he wants to further extend/ modify current treatment.

Hi Valtod and congratulations! I saw your shout out over there somewhere and wanted to see if I could log into the site with my new computer and it let me in. For some reason it didn't work before, they made changes or my computer did, something went goofy and I couldn't login.
Thanks for asking after me. I am doing great. I tapered down at 72 weeks ( after my first 24 week attempt failed) and have felt better each day since I finished tx. Doc says I did 96 weeks because there was only a 2 week span between the two treatments so I don't know if I make the 72 weeker's list!
I go for my 6 month check in Feb. but my 3 month was UND so I am feeling confident about it. I am so incredibly grateful every day that I beat that @$%&$% virus!
I continue to take my ALIVE religiously each day with my berries and live culture yogurt and soy milk plus I take PPC, Curcumin and Heptapro. I keep to a diet of fish, grains and veggies and try to be good and drink water and not eat belgian chocolate, my vice of choice.

I do try to stop in and see how everyone is doing but with having my ENERGY back, I am back to my life and busy picking up with my business where I left off when I was diagnosed.
How are you? I am thrilled each time I see someone SVR, and wish courage on all that are still fighting.
My CT scan showed cirrhosis and I relapsed BUT I beat it in the end so all the people who are fighting out there, stay positive, it can be done! I strongly believe in the importance of eating well,especially for those of us with cirrhosis. I think that has helped me to have not gained any weight since I stopped tx. Even my red palms are now pink instead of bright red like they were when I was sick.

You know what people need to fully realize is that our "chance" of getting to SVR was VERY LOW - that is what makes it a full on miracle that we did the 72 and are clear.

It's not just as if you do the 48 weeks, hitting UND on week 4 and are one of the 50%.

We were not supposed to really make it - but we did.  

THAT is the point of the 72 you know? And people need to remember that.

Kathy; just got back from the hepatologist's. In short, he agreed to extend treatment at my current dosage for a total of two years, unless I cry uncle first. This puts my current assigned treatment position at week 71/104, concluding 9/14/08. This was based on a number of factors; none of which are solidly supported by reasearch :o).

Lessons... be careful what we wish for, LOL!!

WAY back when I started we really didn't know yet that if not UND at 12 but by 24 do 72 was really a new 'rule'.  Even though Berg and Sanchez Tapias had just come out there really was no hard 'personal' data to support it via experience so those of us who did extend just sort of guessed and talked our doctors into it.

Now, a few years later when we KNOW how crucial this all is - I can't wait to see the SVR side of the column going up up up up up!  I'm so glad that this was updated again!  Just watch in the next year how much it goes up in our favor of the cure of this I am positive!


I love that Friole is in there - that woman got me through some REALLY sketchy times and without her, I don't know that I could have made it.

Plus - she sent me the only hepc virus I have left in the world.........my little hepc doll who sits on my tv and stares at me reminding me constantly that I can get through anything.

While it is a ride I wish no one had to take, I'm giving up my seat on this almost 3 year dx to tx to SVR!! (yes svr!!) journey. For those still in transit --I hope you can find comfort in the fact that while the 72 week ride is a long one (you'll have to share my seat, until Za gives up hers as well), there can be a big payoff in the end. For those whose treatment has failed them, keep the faith, we are entering a new treatment era of ever increaing svr odds, so attitudes should remain positive!!

Just took injection number 59 of 72, so I will be done on 12/5/2008. Actually won't be completely done until 1/2/2009 since I plan to taper the interferon for 4 weeks after my full-dose EOT date

Thanks for updating this. I saw this post much earlier, but I wasn't much interested. Then I sat down with my hepatologist for a heart-to-heart, and he told me I should do 72 weeks. I cried even though I already knew that it was the case that my best chance was to extend. I'm getting close and am so ready to regain my mental and physical health

Thanks for the well wishes, obviously I am thrilled..Not only am I thrilled about the new svr status, but I am very happy with my recent lft #'s--
ast-24/alt-23 and they have continued to drop since my 3 month post pcr. And on another happy note (related or not), my osteoarthritis has eased up greatly the last few weeks, feeling pretty darn good...I believe I can begin training for the next "sport sex" olympics .........

Welcome to the club! I can tell you that at least for us who are now looking at SVR because of extending tx, those extra 24 weeks sure are worth it. I have seen so many slow responders relapse after doing 48 weeks, I firmly believe that giving ourselves a shot at SVR by extending tx is the best thing to do.

I will be taking my 6 months post tx PCR October 2nd, and will be sure to post the results here in this thread. I was UND at 3 months post so I am very hopeful.

Hey all - do I count for the 72 week club? I did 48 weeks for GT1A in 04 - 05 and cleared for 3 years - SVR.

Was reinfected a year ago with GT 3a and completed 24 months one month ago - so my total on treatment was 72 weeks in checks, I think the 72 weeks was worse.

Im I a member of the 72 week club?
