90 % relapse after 6 weeks treatment

I took a RNA-PCR after 6 week EOT, and the test was not ready before after easter. I had ALAT and ASAT at 27 U/mL.
I never had so low liver enzymes that had been registrert after I was 18 years. I believe that is a good test then my PCR is not ready aftrer 1-2 weeks from now. I think that if my hcv was positive my liver enzymes would be much higher. I stop treatment at 1/2 time with geno 1 and 2 because that my virus start was 2 7000 0000 IU/mL and 1 week later 6300 U/mL. My doctor teels me to stop tratment after 24 weeks because my RVR. What another people think?

But then I think you knew it all along with enzymes that great!

cONGRATULATIONS

(I had only meant before that you treat the harder to treat geno and assume that the other geno will be killed as well (geno1 48 weeks geno2 24 weeks - ALL A PRETTY MOOT POINT NOW AS YOU MOVE ON TO SVR!!!!!!!!  :)

Hi Chemister,

Keeping my fingers crossed that your three week RVR is the magic key. My guess is it's gotta be.

The latest guidelines in Sweden (and likely Norway, where you are) appear different, and focus on RVR to the exclusion of starting viral load:

"Swedish recommendations for the treatment of HCV infection were upgraded..."

"For genotype 1 patients with rapid viral response (RVR), 24 weeks treatment is recommended."

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20001276

When I was around this forum during my tx last year, shortened tx seemed advisable only with low starting viral load COMBINED WITH RVR; that may still be the case in NA and elsewhere BUT not in Sweden. The upgraded opinions by the Swedish panel focus on the significance of RVR. This suggests your doc, not surprisingly, made his call based on those experts.

Add to the mix that you have zero liver damage, are young and trim - well, things are looking mighty, mighty good over there in beautiful Norway.

It's the way to go, shortened treatment, in and out and done. You won your own gold on this SOC journey. Congrats.

P.S. Wasn't Petter Northug amazing? 50 k?!

Thanks all, it really helps with little positive thoughts and words.
I never had so low liver enzymes at inside normal standards. Always 100-150 in 20-25 years, so I believe that can tell me little before the answer from PCR.
I read a another post at this forum and he get his liver enzymes before the PCR, and this was more than 100, and he understands that he had relapsed, and that was right..
nygirl7, what you mean with I am not treated for geno 2? I was negative for HCV at week 3, 4,18 and 24. I took Pegasys and Ribavirin in 24 weeks, and respond very fast at this drug-mix, also very ill :)

Do whatever you can do to make sure you beat this disease for good. You are off to a great start but as you did not have a low VL I would encourage you to go to the finish line (48 weeks for your geno 1 - you do not treat the geno 2 but only the geno1 you know).

Either way best of luck!

Co writer...."The literature so far says you can treat for 24 weeks if you start with a low viral load and RVR".

I haven't been here a lot this yr, is this true for Geno 1's also?

Chemister, you 'were' Geno 1 and 2? While liver enzymes aren't a good predictor of SVR, UND, keep your hopes up. I kept calling and bugging my nurse for my results, she finally called in for them!

Thanks all, and yes I worry too much for the PCR answer. I hope to stay SVR.
24-48 more weeks with treatment, I would start to cry....

I'm wishing you the best chemister but you can't count on liver enzymes as a predictor.

EOT liver enzymes were normal.  3 months post tx enzymes completely normal.  PCR - relapse -  vl 137,000

After relapse, they say the viral load shoots back up and mine never did.

The thing you have going for you is you RVR'd.  Hoping you stay UND and good luck.

I think that you are worrying yourself too much because the PCR has not come back from the lab yet.  We all let our imaginations run wild when we are waiting for the test to come back.  My 6 month PCR took over a month to come back from the lab because it was the holiday season and the lab people were not running tests very often.  Your liver enzymes are an important positive indicator.  Try not to worry.  Try to be patient.

I am really hoping it works for you.  You come from the same place as Isolated Virus Killer and in my eyes that makes you special.

You're young, you RVR'd  and the fact that your liver enzymes are so low is a great sign.

That being said, I would have recommended 48 weeks because you started with a high viral load and the risk of relapse would be higher with 24 weeks.

The literature so far says you can treat for 24 weeks if you start with a low viral load and RVR.

Do I think you can clear?  Sure I do.

I am sending you positive energy.....imagining you jumping up and down because you cleared.....
