I highly doubt you actually know what a Republican is or actually means. It certainly has nothing to do with the current GOP in the United States. Sugesting all are Liberal based on the fantasy of one little boy is shows a definate lack of simple reasoning.

My heart is warmed that you spoke to your Doc, whose info id current and in line with best practices for those impacted with any form of liver disease. Hopefully some of the other good suggestions from others who replied to this thread will assist you with your sleep patterns. There were some excellent suggestions that did not involve further distress to your liver.

One would suspect that a "rat" study is all one needs to ingest a hormone that may cause great distress to one's liver. Any competent hepatologist will acknowledge that Melatonin has caused and will continue to cause serious problems with those with compromised liver architecture. If you feel the need to support taking this hormone because it is a republican family value or some other form of twisted logic, by all means please ingest.

By saying you highly doubt that I "know what a Republican is" is proof of YOUR lack of reasoning skills.  What a dumb thing to say.

So what did you think of the rat study?  Your insults weren't effective in distracting me from the fact that you didn't even acknowledge it. Can I assume that the study has put you in your place?  Or would that be my lack of simple reasoning skills tricking me again? LOL

Andy, my dear, you were the one who initiated combining political insults with your attacks on Melatonin.  I was simply continuing the conversation within the context YOU established.  I gather from your frustrated tone that this isn't going the way you had hoped when you decided to attack Snook on the basis of his age and politics.  You only succeeded in demonstrating your own stupidity and intolerance -- two traits that you've been unsuccessful in pinning on conservatives.

And by the way, I assure you that Snook has many, many allies on this board.  They may be quiet because of their general disdain for conflict, but they exist, nonetheless.  I doubt that anyone would defend how you presented yourself on this thread.

.....well, at least seems to be for rat livers.  Read further:

Melatonin prevents experimental liver cirrhosis induced by thioacetamide in rats

Abstract: Liver cirrhosis is a critical stage of chronic liver diseases that can produce liver failure, portal hypertension and hepatocarcinoma. Sustained oxidative stress plays a key role in cell damage and fibrosis induced during liver cirrhosis. We evaluated the effect of oxidative stress regulation by melatonin on the development of parenchymal destruction and stellate cell activation in experimental liver cirrhosis. Melatonin was administered to rats with liver cirrhosis induced by thioacetamide (TAA) for 1 or 3 months. Liver injury was assessed by serological analysis, as well as hematoxylin-eosin staining and the in situ apoptosis detection assay in liver sections. Oxidative stress was evaluated by lipoperoxide and reduced glutathione levels, and by the measurement of catalase and superoxide dismutase activities in liver and serum respectively. The activation of stellate cells was evaluated by α-smooth muscle actin expression in liver sections. Our results showed that TAA induced oxidative stress with extensive tissue damage and enhanced α-smooth muscle actin expression in liver. Melatonin prevented the oxidative stress-related changes associated with TAA toxicity. In conclusion, the study showed that melatonin prevents the tissue damage and fibrosis associated with TAA-induced liver cirrhosis in rats.
