Any Correlation Between Clearing Hep C & Weight Gain?

It'll be a couple of weeks before I get my 12 week EOT test to verify if I'm cured but I believe I am. I'm a 61 year old man and have always been in good shape. Now I've put on a quick 20 pounds and have a big belly for the first time ever! Could it be because my liver is metabolizing food better now? Is anyone else having this issue?

What is the dangerous BMI level? Is Higher the number a negative thing and lower the number positive. I currently have a BMI of 22. Is that good?
It is related to HCV for me. I want better muscle mass. What does the BMI contain? Fat & Muscle or just one of them?

Carl.  I have not heard of weight gain associated with post treatment.  My only thought would be that you may be less stressed and enjoying food more since you are likely SVR.  While on treatment you may have eaten more to combat any side effects and now you've taken on a new habit.
The only other thought would be the Thyroid.  That can cause weight gain and we are all well aware that Hep C and treatment can cause changes for some to the endocrine system.  A simple blood test can determine if that's the cause.
Post SVR my gut actually became flatter.  I attribute that to feeling better and increasing my workouts.  Try to start moving and watching your calories a bit more closely.  You've been burdened by this disease for so long it's easy to celebrate and perhaps over eat.  Try to give yourself a break and enjoy life's new adventures finally feeling good after all these years.  In time your body should readjust to your set point and the weight will diminish.
Be well
......Kim

This could be age. I know a man --he never had HCV-- and he grew a pot belly just at this age. He is 63 now.

I got my SVR and it was a year ago that I was taking Sovaldi+riba. I gained a few pounds while on the treatment and had some issues post treatment, (not just weight). But I feel very well now. The fat has come off without any effort on my part, especially in the last couple of months. I'm back to BMI of 19.6, as it was just before I got the virus.

Don't have time to dig up exact references right now but there is a well documented association between clearing both HIV and HCV with antivirals and redistribution of body fat around the mid section of your body.  Cause is thought to due to multiple factors.

Has happened to me to.

Oh it's the pot belly EOT that you are concerned with. It's a curious thing. I don't think you are alone in this. Maybe self massage might help get rid of it.

Not on any SSRIs (had to google that one). Not on any new drugs. I just grew a pot belly with no explanation! I'm having trouble losing it.

I have the opposite problem...I was 180 lbs and in good condition before treatment and after 12 weeks of Harvoni and being undetected @ EOT, I'm struggling to maintain 160 lbs. Diet has changed a little because of high BP and postassium, but not to this extent.

I'm 54 and my metabolism is in overdrive.

I haven't read enough and it's just quicker to ask, have they put you on any SSRI's, they made me gain a bunch of weight.

I gained a lot of weight during treatment but now at 8 months after I'm losing weight without trying. I have no idea how one measures muscle mass so don't know about that. I'm still pretty much a weakling.

It could be because of any number of things. If you have acites then a related Edema may be throughout your body making you gain water weight. It could be food taste better and you have an increased appetite.
I'd give it time. I got to where food tasted good and gained a steady 3.5 lbs which is not what I had experienced with having the virus. 3.5 is a lot for petite me. Now after several months EOT cured, my appetite has lowered and I have leveled off.  Some of the weight gain could be an improvement in muscle mass. It could be from personal habits like not getting enough exercise daily. I'm doing power walking and am back to watching what I eat. After EOT I ate what I wanted and it wasn't a good idea even though it didn't cause gastro issues. Now back to the liver diet and watching the weight so that it's a healthy weight. I'm good now. No more wasting or atrophy. Great improvement in muscle mass has occurred for me.
Maybe you will level off and lose a few pounds like I have. The total weight I gained was 5 lbs. but now it's a total increase of 3.5 and holding like I said. More research could be done on the metabolism EOT/SVR.
