Nervous

Well, today is day 1, and I am quite nervous to say the least. I tried treatment 2 years ago,but stopped due to the bad side effects. Got to week 3 that time. Does anyone have any experience with stopping tx. and then resuming tx. later?

If your doctor is planning on adding a protease inhibitor to the mix, the nausea will increase and nausea is a noted side effect with Victrelis (43-46%) and Incivek (39%).  This is something you will need to discuss with your doctor.  There are prescription antiemetic medications that can help.

We can"t speak for your doctor...however you should do whatever it takes to continue treatment   .as desrt has mentioned above..if you are now on a P.I  then stopping early could have more seroius consequenses.

Hopfully the sides are less severe ..but possibly a good idea to at least talk to the doc about possibilities to deal with them ahead of time..
Good luck...

That's something for you and your doctor to decide. Vicoprofen worked for me, but your doc may prefer a different pain killer / anti-inflamatory depending on what's causing the headaches.

Actually,I made the "irresponsible" decision to stop on my own. The headaches were awful and ibuprofen and tylenol were not strong enough. Can the Dr. prescribe a narcotic for the headaches?

Hi there....Congrats on getting  started again. Obviously your are using the same drugs as last time. so you may get the same sides again or then again possibly not or to a lesser degree.
You say "you took yourself" off the meds..because of nausea and headache. Was this with the doctors recommendation and did he not talk to you first about possible  meds or remedies to help  get thru these sides.

In the first few weeks of treatment often the sides can be more severe for some people ..as your body is initially reacting to these meds ..and then things can level out somewhat...not always but very often this happens.....hopfully  your doc can try to get you past this period if this happens again.

Good luck and welcome..

Assuming you were on standard PegIFN/ribavirin tx two years ago, that attempt shouldn't be a factor in today's tx.
If the tx you're now starting is triple tx with a protease inhibitor thrown in, the consequences of discontinued tx can be more seious.
Hopefuly your Rxing doctor is working closely with you to deal with your side effects. A little Phenergran and some pain meds can make a world of difference in keeping you comfortable.
Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome...I took myself off the meds because the headaches and nausea were horrendous. I was on the typical regime of a 48 week round of inteferon and ribavirin.

It might help to understand why you stopped 2 yrs ago.  Were you in a trial where they pulled you due to low blood level or severe rash?  Or, was it your choice to stop - if so why.  And what where your bad sx?

There is an incredible depth of knowledge on this forum that are on their 2nd or 3rd round of trt that can relay how they have dealt with their issues during the course.

Welcome back to the forum  Hope this round is successful for you and you have minimal sx:)
