Drinking water on the Sovaldi/Olysio tx

Hello. I was on the MedHelp board in 2003/4 when I went through 48 weeks of interferon/ribavirin and unfortunately relapsed. I will start the Sovaldi/Olysio combo tomorrow.

While it is always good to drink a lot of water, during the interferon/ribavirin tx, the advise was 3 quarts a day. No one said anything for the current round. Does anyone have any advice on this topic?

I called the 24 hour hot line and asked about the grapefruit and citrus...they said the only thing they wouldn't advise  was the grapefruit.  Other citrus was ok and I have been eating oranges and kiwis and pineapple all the time. ( Yes kiwis are citrus.)  I drink massive amounts of home made lemonade from real lemons limes and oranges.  Everyone on there knows I am a juicer...fruit and veggie....so I am avoiding the grapefruit but that is all.

Do drink as much water as I can. (32 -64 oz a day) ( Have eliminated carbonated drinks. (cause gallstones)  Have almost eliminated all sugar, sodium and fats.  (all hard for your liver to process). No beef...red meat....up'd my fish intake and get protein from bean type products and have become a home made peanut butter freak.  Have spent the last two years honing my nutrition and my granddaughter is studying nutrition at one of the major medical universities,  With sovaldi / riba there are no food restriction except grapefruit.

The deal is you can take the Sovaldi with other meds but you MUST take the Riba with food.  I take my Sovaldi in a.m.  then first dose of Riba after lunch....second dose after dinner.

Most of the above information (except my food preferences) can be found in the paperwork with you received with the medication...on the medication website or call the 24/7 nurse hot line and they will help you.

Good luck to those on interferon/ riba / sovaldi.  I can't take interferon because it makes me so ill....plus I have muscle spasms for about 6 - 8 hours.  However, the 24 hour hotline nurse for Sovaldi will be able to give you additional information regarding the interferon.  Plus there is info on the website and you had to have received information regarding the combination of drugs when you started.

From what I can tell, there is no strong recommendation for this combo. Interferon/ribavirin was nasty and if I didn't drink at least three quarts of water a day, I started to feel very toxic. So I think it was more important to flush your system with those. I expect I will drink extra water at first and let my body tell me what it needs.

I am on 11th week Sovaldi and Olysio ( no RIBA )
I was only told to take with food

No grapefruits or Seville oranges

And mostly about asking md about meds, including over the counter meds that may not mix well

Nothing about water

Someone on a different support line told me Sovaldi is excreted thru kidneys and Olysio is excreted thru feces

I am UD at 4 and 8 weeks
I only drink 7-8 glasses a day fluids
I hope that's ok?
No one told me to drink more

Curious to see what you find out
