Welcome to the fun of treatment! Don't worry when you get bored with these sx there are plenty more wierd and strange ones to surprise and astonish!
Metamucil seemed to have worked somewhat for me. Remember to stay hydrated. It will help with the other side effects also.
Diarrhea
Diarrhea is present in 20% or so of patients on therapy, but can be a significant side effect. It tends to be episodic, and will often improve even with continued therapy. If persistent and significant, adequate hydration needs to be assured.
Management
Once other causes of diarrhea are deemed unlikely, oral antidiarrheal agents can be used, eg, loperamide (Imodium) 2 mg capsules, 2 initially then 1 after each loose stool to a maximum of 4 per 24 hours; or diphenoxylate/atropine (Lomotil) 2.5 mg/0.025 mg, 2 tablets up to 4 times daily.
Avoid or limit caffeine-containing beverages (such as coffee and cola) and high-sugar soft drinks.
Limiting of lactose-containing foods may be helpful in some patients.
Boiled rice, apples or applesauce, bananas, oatmeal, and bulking agents such as Metamucil can help solidify stool.
Good luck with your treatment.
Hector
Unfortunately, its pretty common to get mouth ulcers or cold sores or nasal sores. The good news is that it may not last the entire treatment. The bad news is that it may come and go. Different people have different side effects and different levels of side effects.
About four weeks ago I was at the ER throwing up in the trash can (and I am three months post tx now but still having a few issues) and this poor male nurse was having to push some anti nausea meds really really slowly into my iv (it smelled so bad in there that i really felt for the guy) and he said his dad (who is a trauma nurse) got hepc from a dirty needle stick and treated and never felt bad one day the entire time.
So it just varies. I had horrible oral ulcers my first two or three weeks then I didn't get them again until much later in treatment. So I'll cross my fingers and say a prayer for you that your nasal ulcers go away and don't return! They have a mouthwash you can use if you get them in your mouth but I'm not sure what you can use in your nose. Maybe someone else has some good ideas.
it's all new to you but just deal with the sx as they arrive. don't try to figure out which drug causes what, it'll drive you batty. read the info that came with the meds and you'll see a host of side effects listed - for me, making thru tx may extend my time here on earth, so i'll pay just about any price >;o) good luck and keep reading this forum. if you have a question, especially a "weird" sx, do a search on the forum (upper right side of this screen) for the info and you will see the many folks feeling exactly like you do - good luck sister
The night of my first shot was not fun. However, other than a bit tired on Saturday I have felt pretty good. I also noticed that I didn;t go to sleep until 1am and I am one of those 9pm go to bed for the night kinda girls. So I am picking up the Ambien tonight.
HEY GIRL...THE NOSE SORES ARE SOO NORMAL....WELCOME TO THE BEGINNING OF A WILD RIDE...LOL
i'll send you a private message
