Can genotype be determined when viral count is undectable?

by vassillissa, Jun 01, 2002 12:00AM
Due to dr apathy and a lab that couldn't seem to get anything straight, my genotype was not established before treatment was started -- when my dr found out that we didn't have that information, he decided to wait until we did another viral load to order that test.  I was just tested at 20 weeks for viral load and genotype. My viral load came back undetectable (good news for people who are having to cut back on meds due to blood work--I'm in that category) and when I called the nurse to get the results, she said she had been waiting to send them to me because the genotype hadn't come back yet.  Afterwards, I started wondering how they could determine the genotype if they couldn't detect the virus. What do you all think?
