I am glad for your husband getting a good response to treatment. My genotype is 1a and my treatment will be Sovaldi with peginterferon alpha 2a and ribarvirin. If my doctor is right about me having cirrhosis, I don't understand why I don't have any symptoms maybe because I have early cirrhosis or only in some parts of my liver and the rest of my liver is functioning compensating for the part that is not functioning. I know I have liver damage and I have hepatitis c and I will pray that treatment will cure me and have a normal life and live many years. Wish the same for your husband.

I will leave it to others to interpret the reports.
Let's focus on the positive:
I am happy to know you are starting treatment in four weeks. If you do have cirrhosis, it is at an early stage. Which treatment are you starting? What is your genotype? You have a great opportunity to cure this virus before more serious damage is done to your liver and you don't have to wait long to stop the damage. My husband is on day 16 of treatment. His liver enzymes all show improvement already. His billirubin which has not been below 2 in about 8 months is now at 1.3. Normal range is 1.2 This medicine is a miracle worker.
So I know you are upset. But I advise you to look forward to starting treatment and getting rid of this blankety-blank virus once and for all.
All the best to you as you move forward.

My ultrasound was done on few weeks before my liver biopsy. In the ultrasound showed liver size normal and two small cysts that the doctor said was no serious.

Your liver biopsy was done in August, 2013. Ct scan in Jan. 2014. You said you also had an ultrasound - when was that and what were the results?
My husband had a liver biopsy in Jan. 2013 only showed fibrosis. In Dec 2014, he had another liver biopsy and had already progressed to cirrhosis.
But he is post transplant with aggressive recurrent Hep C and other complications.
Hope your doctor is wrong.

Thank you, for your response. The doctor who is seen me is a specialist a hepatologist who treats patients with hepatitis c.
The results for liver biopsy are as follows at August 30, 2013
Cronic hepatitis c. Grades 1 to 2( portal and periportal) and grade lobular. stage 2(periportal fibrosis and focal portal-portal septa fibrosis with intact architecture.. A mild to moderate portal and focal .periportal lymphocytic. No cirrohosis is seen.
The ct scan of the abdomen are as follows at january15 2014 four months after biopsy:
Liver: Small liver possibly related to cronic liver disease. No dilated ducts or evidence of HCC. Early portal hypertension with borderline splenomegaly and prominent main portal vein. Main portal vein is engorged measuring 14mm. Portal and hepatic veins are patent.
I hope this information can be a great help for me to understand what's going on with two different tests.

You are correct.
I biopsy one year ago that said your liver disease was at stage 2 would not change in a year's time. So you can't have advanced to cirrhosis and portal hypertension from hepatitis C. If you had portal hypertension and cirrhosis your liver would appear nodular, you would have an enlarged spleen and portal venous problems that would appear on any ultrasound or ct scan. Since this was not mentioned on your imagining studies,.and your biopsy said stage 2 both can not be true.
No one can say when someone was exposed with the virus unless you were in the acute stage of hep C and had seen a doctor during that time and the tests for hep C were available.
Is this doctor a hepatologist or gastroenterologist who normally treats patients with cirrhosis? If not he is not qualified to properly diagnose you.
Find specialist who treats people with liver disease and hep C on a daily basis to assure yourself that you are correct and do not have cirrhosis.
A liver transplant center's hospital would be the best place to have a hepatologist or gastro review your medical records so you can have peace of mind.
If you would like you can post a copy of the results of your biopsy and imaging studies and we who have had cirrhosis ourselves can translate the medical talk into plain English. Cirrhosis and portal hypertension are easily diagnosed with biopsy and confirmed with imagining and blood test results.
Good luck!
