I had over 6MM VL when I started S/O combo and I went UND at week 4 (maybe sooner but no labs were done) Almost done with S/O and I can feel the virus is gone.
Whoops, I left something out. I wasn't undetectable at week 4, but very close. My week 4 viral load was 300.
My viral load was as high as 60,000,000. Before I started treatment it was 28,000,000. After 12 weeks of treatment with Solvaldi and Olysio my viral load came back undetectable. (I'm not officially cured until my Jan 5th viral load test is done.)
Like neptune said, yes, it is very much possible to be cured with a high viral load. Don't let your high viral load worry you, I'll bet you do just fine on Havoni. These new drugs are very strong.
The answer is yes.I went from 7.045 on a log scale to 0 UND around the 5 week timeframe. A viral load of 50,000,000 is 7.699 on a log scale.
Yes, entirely possible, and likely commonplace, to be cured with that high of a viral load.
I guess I am asking if such a high vl can be eliminated during treatment. Does anyone here know of anyone with a really high vl that has cleared during treatment?
Undetectable means no evidence of virus in the blood. Yes, it is possible to attain this status after 2 - 6 weeks or so. My hepatologist told me that everyone taking Sovaldi (a component of Harvoni) is UND by week 4 or 8 of treatment.
The problem is that there are hidden reservoirs of virus in the body. The goal of treatment is to remain UND on a blood test while continuing to treat in the hopes of knocking out these hidden viral reservoirs.
That is why we have to wait for 12 weeks after treatment to be declared "cured."
Can you become cured at week 4 vs week 12 since Viral load is high?
No one is cured at week 4 even if your bloodwork shows UND.
Cured is when treatment ends and 12 weeks have passed and you are still
UND. That is called "Sustained Viral Response" or SVR12.
It is really not effected by a high viral load. Once you are UND at 4 weeks
6 weeks, or 2 weeks when you are UND that means no evidence of the virus
but still not cured.
