Help

I am scared. I have had sex with someone that I believe has Hep C. Do I have it?? I have none of the other risk factors for contracting the disease. What are my chances?

I think what you will find when this is over that you have been living in fear for years over something that never was.  I know it's tough and scary to go get tested but the amount of pain and fear over 3-4 years is way worse than just biting the bullet and getting tested.

Wishing you a good outcome,
Willy

It was before I was with my husband that I think I was exposed.....I just didn't find out that I had been exposed until after we had been together. I would never cheat on my husband!! EVER!!! I posted on the 22nd of Feb. but didn't have the bloodwork done until March 3rd.

Quite honestly if you are having sex with other people perhaps it's not the perfect time to think about having a baby.........let alone if you have hepc or not. Wont your husband be quite surprised if you have a child that isn't his & you have hepc...I bet he'd really wonder how that might have happened.

Even though everyone here has told you it's not an STD tiy are still obsessing over this.  You posted on Feb 22 and it's now March 9 - those results should have been back arleady, it's been 15 days and generally only takes a week.

Perhaps you should call the doctors office and find out. I am sure if you did have it they would contact you one way or the other as they have to report it also to the state health department (well they did in my state at the time anyway) so it can be a part of governmental statistics and stuff as it is an infectious disease.

I am still posting because in 2007....I didn't want to believe that I might have this disease. Instead I choose to chicken out and not get tested. I ignored it. Well, I can't ignore the issue anymore. Because of our fertililty issues we had to have blood work done....including a Hep C test. Now that the results will soon be staring me in the face....it is kind of hard to hide from it. Back in 2007...I should have faced it head on....but instead I buried my head in the sand......that was a mistake!

I don't understand why you joined in 2007 with this issue and you are still posting about exposure.  What is up with that?

I am married for 14 years and had a child with my husband who has hepatitis C, and I don't have the disease. We just didn't know that he was infected, so we never took any precautions. You have nothing to worry about. If there was any truth about this disease being transmitted sexually, I would definitely have it after all these years. Please, relax. I am sure that your test will come back negative.

I really hope that my test comes back negative. I don't think that my husband would understand. We are trying to have a baby and are having fertility issues. I don't think that I can handle anything else.

Yeah, what Will and Bill said.  In fact, if you look at Mary4now's profile and recent posts....

Many of us in here got HCV as a result of youthful indiscretion; in fact, intravenous drug use is one of the primary reasons we develop the disease. Yes, most if not all folks make mistakes in our youth. It’s not important now, other than to learn from our errors and try not to repeat them.

Try to relax; you probably aren’t infected with the virus. In a worst case scenario and you find out you are, you’ll deal with the results like the rest of us. It’s not the end of the world, either way, right? Many people that get this virus are clueless and will live a full life, eventually succumbing to some other cause and will die *with* HCV, rather than *because* of it.

Cool your jets, try to chill, and good luck with the upcoming results,

--Bill

Many of us are on this forum currently because of the fact we have done things in the past when we were young  without thinking of the consequences,So there is nothing you can do about that now.

Rather than spending the next few days until your test results come in,being worked up about those results, it may be a good idea to spend that time reading up on HCV,and doing as much research as you can about transmission routes, and as a result you will find that infection via sex is very rare,so as to relieve your fears somewhat.

Good Luck

WILL

Didn't you ever do anything without thinking about the concequences?? When your young you think that nothing bad will ever happen to you.

I don't know I just didn't.....I was stupid and young and foolish! My exposure would have been about 10 years ago.

Why didn't you think about that before you had sex?  Love is so short

I called the lab. They said the end of the week. I am so worried. I can't think about anything else. My doctor didn't order the test. I asked to have it done, because of the sexual exposure that I had. I am so worked up over this!

Hep C is the most common blood vectored viral disease in North America. While you may have it, it’s unlikely you developed it from sexual exposure. Keep in mind that the test results used for screening purposes indicate past or present infection if ‘reactive’ or positive.

If your test results are ‘reactive’, then additional testing will be required to check for active RNA virus.

Good luck,

Bill

HCV isn't considered an STD unless both you and your partner bleed during sex. It is transmitted blood to blood.
