Finding a Doctor

I am a female with genotype 1 - stage one damage and am trying to find Hep C doctor. I live in Fort Worth Texas.  I want to persue treatment with the new drugs but am not happy with the doctor I saw today.  I currently have some bouts of depression and terrible insomnia.  I am treated for my insomnia/anxiety with Temazepam 15mg and Trazodone 50mg.  I also take Minocycline 100 mg once daily.  The doc I saw today said I could not take ANY of those  meds for him to treat me.  I made a phonecall to Incivic/Teleprevir today and they say the only one I cant take is the Trazodone due to drug interactions.  I called a pharmacist and was told the exact same thing.  I want to be cured, but I also want to keep my sanity as much as possible in the process. Any suggestions for doctors in my area that anyone knows of that would like to help me sleep-keep my sanity- and cure me???? Am I asking for to much?

Thank you for the responses it is greatly appreciated.  I will try the link for my continued search for a good hepatologist.. Went back to my primary care Dr. who gave me a pep talk an Rx for antidepressants and a new sleep aid. I wish I could clone him... Grateful for the Hep C community!

Here are some basic guideline based on the info you provided.

You shouldn't start treatment if you have a history of depression. You must have your depression under control as the treatment can cause a major depressive episode which could cause you to stop treatment before completing treatment.

Depression and insomnia go together. Trazodone is a rather old antidepressant (serotonin modulator). If you are still experiencing depression then it is not working for you. Also since it is incompatible with treatment meds you need to find a new antidepressant anyway. You should be seeing a psychiatrist that is experienced in treating depression that can find a med that stabilizes your moods.

Not sure why you are taking the Minocycline which is used to treat bacterial infections. It is a potentially dangerous drug.

You should get a referral. if needed. to see a gastroenterologist who is experienced in successfully treating patients with hepatitis C. They can help you coordinate with the psychiatrist before and during treatment.

Good luck to you!
