Geno type 3 treatment

I am currently waiting to go for treatment. My doctor wants me to go on Pegulated Interferon + Ribavarin. Now there are these new treatments teleprevair.... Should I just take the older treatment or is there a better chance of beating the virus with the newer drugs-and how much statistically better is it, does anyone know? Thank you Jon

I could be wrong, but I thought the new drugs are for people who have geno 1. I too am geno 3 and started tx this past December. I was told the new drugs were not for me since I'm geno 3. Others on this forum will know more.

The two DAA that will be approved this Summer are designed for treating HCV genotype 1.

Genotype 3
It's estimated that about 6 percent of Americans have genotype 3. Treatment is very similar to treating genotype 2 infections. Likewise, the chance of achieving SVR is similar.

Rates of Viral Clearance using SOC treatment:
Genotype 2/3
SVR – 70 to 80 percent

Genotype 3's treating with SOC (peg-interferon/Ribavirin) have about the same odds of SVR as genotype 1's when treating with one of the new DAA meds.
