Breast cancer - me too

Have been away from the boards for a bit and I just messaged Foresee about this exact subject before checking out the forum. I am afraid that chemo will hurt my liver or make Hep C worse and they won't have the expertise to treat me.

I have been given a Birads score of 5 following an MRI. There is a 5% chance it is benign I guess, but I will know more after biopsies scheduled tomorrow morning. I am going to print out the above discussion and digest what everyone has posted. Or  maybe I will wait and come back to it. I am pretty freaked right now. How do people function while waiting for news like this?

Cbee, let's stay in touch.

I will be buying it. It really helps the inner self to read something like this everyday. Read something in the morning before going to work, and write a letter to myself before bed (and remember to read it too!!)

no pain, no gain! (sorry, had to throw that muscle building phrase in there please forgive my muse)

hey, thanks for this...youre one up on me....it's known as probably the best book on meditation ever written, though, of course, that's always a matter of opinion...He's got a PhD in psychology and the nicest way of writing, both thoughtful and intelligent, yet really easy and accessible...it's helped me tremendously with a lot of pain in my life, I always come back to it.... the meditations are beautiful...

My local bookstore has this book and also has a synopsis online:

Publisher Comments:
Perhaps the most important book yet written on meditation, the process of inner transformation, and the integration of spiritual practice into our American way of life, A Path with Heart brings alive one by one the challenges of spiritual living in the modern world. Written by a teacher, psychologist, and meditation master of international renown, this warm, inspiring, and expert book touches on a wide range of essential issues including many rarely addressed in spiritual books. From compassion, addiction, and psychological and emotional healing, to dealing with problems involving relationships and sexuality, to the creation of a Zen-like simplicity and balance in all facets of life, it speaks to the concerns of many modern spiritual seekers, both those beginning on the path and those with years of experience.
A Path with Heart is filled with practial techniques, guided meditations, stories, koans, and other gems of wisdom that can help ease your journey through the world. The author's own profound — and sometimes humorous — experiences and gentle assistance will skillfully guide you through the obstacles and trials of spiritual and contemporary life to bring clarity of perception and a sense of the sacred into your everyday experience. Reading this book will touch your heart and remind you of the promises inherent in meditation and in a life of the spirit: the blossoming of inner peace, wholeness, and understanding, and the achievement of a happiness that is not dependent on external conditions.

A Path with Heart shows us how we can bring our spirituality to flower every day of our lives. It is a wise and gentle guidebook for an odyssey into the soul that enables us to achieve a deper, more satisfying life in the world.

so sorry to hear about this guys...I got a secondary diagnosis myself, I have a little bit of regurgitation on my aortic valve...still coming to terms with it, but oddly enough, the hep diagnosis was much harder to deal with for me...I went to the cardiologist and he told me that it was really pretty mild in my case, and that I should just keep a watch on it, and it wasn't any big deal to worry about....of course, getting to that point with the docs, and testing, etc...did a number to my nerves....

that many women my age get things like this (I looked up the data), a lot of it from lower estrogen levels due to menopause...that's the deal, if you look at women our ages, they get many of these types of diagnoses....I wanted to know about a correlation to HCV with the cardio guy, and he told me, that here in LA there are tons, tons of HCV cases, and if there were a big correlation to HCV, that he would be seeing many more patients then he sees, and he says he just doesn't...neither does the other cardiologists that he knows in conferences, etc...and he knows many....(a few patients of course, but not many at all)...

Of course these are just his estimations based on his own experiences, but I went to look it up in the research, and I couldn't find much...the one thing that HCV seems to be in line with in terms of cancer, is, of course, liver cancer...maybe if you wanted to know more in terms of breast cancer, you could ask the doctors you are dealing with, I didn't see much in this area...there are stats on how some of these diseases overlap...I just didn't see much....

My own humble opinion? we could trip and think that HCV caused it, or the treatment itself caused it, or not caused it...the human body is so complicated and individual....

the only thing we can really do ourselves is go step by step in getting well...and those are all the things we can do that are within our power, anything else is out of our power, and we look to the expert doctors, etc and derive comfort, support and information on boards like this...

as a born worrier, descended from a family of worriers...one of my big goals is to deal constructively with my anxiety and depression, I have no other choice...left to my own devices- I would of gone crazy with worry, obsession, panic, whatever...but I do my mediations, healing meditations, to get my mind in a much better place...a great book I read that has saved me from myself and worry, is A PATH WITH HEART, by Jack Kornfield...it's based on a lot of Buddhist philosophies and meditations, etc...and I think most anyone could get a lot from it, it doesn't counter/ go against anyone's religion, etc...because it's not based on any religion, you can be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, whatever and learn to meditate on healing and keeping calm....etc...it's really great...I know you guys will find some answers and pull through this, we all will, best of luck....

One thing I think about is that we all only die once...but if we worry ourselves out of our minds we die a thousand "little deaths" worrying about that *one* death...time is much better spent in finding and doing constructive things to get well, and enjoying the life we have, day to day...I really could get hit by a bus tomorrow, I don't have all the answers, who does? That's not to say to go into denial about anything, but you know what I mean...

Foofighter...don't worry about that other issue, anytime is okay....

I haven't treated yet...been trying to put it all together with all the info here. I was getting ready to schedule a fibroscan to help me decide whether to wait for the new stuff or go for what is available now.

But I wonder if there is any correlation between the virus and cancers? I have no breast cancer in my family and didn't think I was at risk (only factor was being overweight and that has been up and down over the years).
