Does Interferon/Ribv cause Muscle wasting? Am I CRAZY?

At  8 wk. of Gilead Trial, 5885-9451 and SOC.  Clear but not feeling so good. I still do a lot of yoga and it seems to me that my skin is sagging on my bones.  I still do a strong practice but even my finger tip skin seems saggy, like I am loosing a layer underneath my skin that keeps everything plumped out. I am not really loosing weight.....already pretty small and staying about the same.  I am thinking it is the SOC drugs....I sort of remember it from the 88 wks I was on it years ago.  Any info. would be appreciated.  I think I hate this effect more then the rest.....it's like I'm instantly an old person at 57.  YUK!  Thank you.  Beyondmwd

I agree that you simply may not be drinking enough water.  You should shoot for a gallon a day, or simply a lot.  I'm on the same meds.  Week 17 and I feel great.  A few red marks at my injections sights which cause some itchiness but that's it.  To candyce1953, don't be scared.  There are people who get through this without much of any sides.  Lots of them.  Good luck to both of you.

Dehydration can also be apart of why your skin looks saggy.

The only thing I can add to Hector's response is perhaps from lack of exercise muscles which aren't be used or aren't being used as much, just get soft.
They'll come back after tx is over with regular exercise.

Maybe you are dehydrated?

'I am not really loosing weight..' I think you answered your own question.
Muscle wasting, is a medical term used to describe the actual loss of muscle mass. It is a very serious condition. When a patient has muscle wasting they lose many tens of pounds of weight and become unable to even walk.

Muscle wasting can be seen in patients that are hospitalized for many months and are bed-ridden. They usually require physical therapy to learn how to walk again. Malnutrition, any disease that interferes with the processing of proteins, such as very advanced liver disease can also cause muscle wasting.

When you want a answer to a medical question the best source of knowledge is always your doctor who knows your health history and current health status.

Good luck.
Hector
