I am taking flexiparine injection in my thigh. Have 10 more to go.....So do these red spots just disappear on their own in time? How long Di they take to clear?
Thanks - unfortunately, she is the fleshiest in the tush, and you can't use that!
Let me second Marcia's remarks about sun. This is a real danger, and sunburn today is the least of it. Sun exposure can cause severe damage that, like HCV, can be silent for decades then crop up in malignant growths that are life threatening. Also, make sure she wears a hat, thinning hair doesn't protect the scalp and it burns easily.
Your daughter may want to look into a tankini or a one-piece suit this year. The Lands End swimsuit catalog that just came out has some really cute things. There's not much you can do to prevent the injection site blotches - of course that being said, not everyone gets them.
It doesn't hurt me at all doing injections in the abdomen, but I have plenty (I mean PLENTY) of belly fat. I have almost no fat on my thighs and injecting there is less comfortable and results in more dramatic-looking blotches that linger for weeks. Inject her where she has more fat.
Good luck.

Just wanted to let you know that she will have to be ultra careful with the sun. Sunbathing can make her burn and blister badly while she is on treatment, as the meds make you photosensitive. So either stay out of the sun, or put a super high sunscreen. But she will still have to be very careful. Tanning beds are a total NO, NO while on treatment.
And she should not inject in the abs. It is not supposed to be injected into muscles.
I cannot tell you, if it hurts, as I haven't started treatment, yet.
Marcia
I had 3 inch red spots at each injection site that lasted 1 week. I only did it in my thighs - was too chicken to do it in me ads. I will have to give my daughter her weekly injections which I thought I would do in her thighs. Does it hurt in the abs? She will be wearing two piece bathing suits this summer, so either place the spot will show. Any suggestions?
I am curious if anyone heard of putting Ice on the area where you are going to do the injection, I have read that in several places.
Just trying to get prepared
sexy belly hair?
You mean the "GOODIE TRAIL"?

I too had the red belly splotches. I called them "Raspberries". They didn't really itch and the only side effect I saw from the injection site raspberries was that all my very cool and sexy belly hair fell out around the splotch. Was the only place I lost hair on treatment, course don't really have any left on the head anyway but that's a different story. Red marks went away within 3 weeks after last injection and belly hair grew back as well. Now that I've grossed you ladies out, my work here is done. Think I'll go shampoo my back....
Aww don't be scared Marcia just be aware! This is doable and YOU can do!
Meki I use belly a lot also, thighs sometimes. lol jelly belly!
How are you feeling JD, been thinking about you? Are the antibiotics working? You always worry me so much!
I will call, I think it is just scar tissue, isn't it amazing how aware you become of your body? Maybe if I poke it will pop!
Yeah, I'd call the doctor about that knot. Ya never know!
I had big red spots that turned into greyish brown blossoms --- I don't know how to explain it - but like a silver dollar ---- but spread out "ish".
Anyhow I only did shots in my belly. (My jelly belly area).
But yeah - they do sooooo go away!!!!
So look forward to about 3 months after TX --- and no more spots!!!
Meki
You guys really know how to mentally prepare someone for tx. :-) :-)
Ewww, sounds like a horror show. I'm dreading the injections already...
Sorry, jokes aside. It is good to know what to expect.
Isn't there something one can do to try alleviate some of the reddening and bruising. Remember reading s.th. about ice cubes before the shot??? Does anyone know?
Marcia
Think I will make apt with GP, sort of annoying me!
When I inject peginteron into my thighs I get a big purple blotch at the injection site, its itchy and painful and it takes about 4 weeks to fade. When I inject into my abdomen I get a smaller pink blotch that fades in a week or so, its not painful or itchy, just a big pink polka-dot.
With procrit there's no site reaction no matter where I inject.
No knots so far.
i take a shot every night and i look like i got caught in A red paintball drive by
here is something, I found a knot about an inch under my belly button. it is sore to press, but not at rest.
I asked nurse, she said it might be scar tissue, and as long it is not oozing or open, it shouldn't be an infection. it isn't.
Just a very sore little knot, I inject daily, and procrit 2x a week. So i move them around a lot!
Has anyone else had a this kind of knot?
Yes the Red Spots are common and they do go away. I couldn’t inject anywhere but my stomach. I had very little fat in my arms or thighs but Thank God I had the Beer Gut from Hell.
I have integrated care also! Thank goodness for them! They are awesome! i love my Nurse! If not for her I would be talking to GIs voice mail all the time!
So agree they are great!
thank you all for your input, yes i was told by my Dr i could inject in back of my arm and its working out well im a little on the thin side 110 and not much extra but my angelwings help lol .i live in california and have one of the best Dr out here i also go to a place called Integrated Care Systems it a Hep c compliance program run by RN's that keep track of me aswell as my Dr that i can call 24/7 my DR and my RN,its super cool i just was wondering if anyone else got it,i see my Dr on tue and ill ask him too,but thank you all
I took all my injection on the front of my fore arm. The marks showed so stopped wearing half sleeve shirts Now again started wearing.
There is no problem. After treatment all will be resolved.Don't panic
Yep! I get the welts too, and I HAVE heard that it's okay to inject the back part of your arm, as long as you have plenty of fatty area. From what I understand, arms and thighs are good places if you are particulary thin. NOT my case! haha. I divide my abdomen into four parts - top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right. Like someone said earlier, I can always tell where I was the week before, so there's no chance of a double injection at the same site. Also, my skin gets dry and flaky around the welt. It shows up the day after injection and lasts for over a week. Sometimes they look bruised, too. Just another beautiful part of a lovely, lovely tx. (I'm joking, of course)
I get the red spot, silver dollar sized, but it gets redder until i do my next injection- i can ALWAYS tell where LAST week's injection was, as it is a bright pinkish red spot on one side of my tummy or the other.
I too was told stomach or thighs, but after one in my thigh i gave that idea up- as i had a hcarlie horse all week. I also have limited space in belly, as was told not to inject in the 'strechmarked' area....
