Is it possible to recover with reduced dose of Ribavirin?

I am on my 8th week of triple therapy treatment. 50 year old female,  Hep C 1 Genotype.  My 4th week test showed that my VL was undetectable and doctor told me that   I had 99% chance of full recovery in 24 weeks. But I was not so lucky,  my HMG   dropped to 8.5 on my 6th week and doctor ordered to stop Ribavirin for 3 days, put me on a Procrit shot once a week  and then ordered to proceed with the reduced Ribavirin dosage of 600 mg from 1000 mg.
My CBC on Monday showed that my HMG is 9. I need to continue with Procrit shots and reduced Riba so far.
Now, since I missed Riba for 3 days and I am on a reduced dosage almost 2 weeks and probably stay on a reduced dose until my HMG is back to normal, I am afraid that my Hep C virus will come back and I have less chance of full recovery.
Do I still have chance of full recovery?  Did anyone made it through successfully with the reduced dose or Riba?

are you on the triple therapy? And if so which drugs are you taking?  I think everyone needs some more information before giving any advice.

Dear All

Thank you for sharing your experiences. It is very encouraging for me.
I am going through hell with side effects, I don't think I can do it again if I relapse.  LookingForward12, your case is especially encouraging.   Congratulations with making through the treatment! I hope you will achieve SVR. Keep us posted.

Oh, sorry, I  stayed on 400 mg until EOT.

My ribavirin was halted for five days at week eight because of anemia and rash issues. When I started back at week 9, I was on a reduced dose of 400mg a day. I was UND at weeks 12 and 24. I never stopped the interferon although it, too, was reduced several times before EOT at week 24.

Hi there.  I would be more worried if you had not done well at week 4 (with Incivek/Teleprivir), before you had to have a reduction.  From what I have seen on the forum, it is not uncommon to have RIBA reductions so soon.  Not ideal but your HGB is more important so you can make it through the rest of tx.  Hang in there and keep your doc informed on how you are feeling.  I was not able to handle higher doses of RIBA once I got Anemia, but I was still undetected at the end of tx.

I suspect someone will chime in with statistics, but anecdotally (is that a word?) there are quite a few members of this forum who have attained SVR after a riba dose reduction.  My husband's dosage was reduced from 1200mg to 1000mg at week 5 for the duration of tx, and at 8 weeks post tx  he continues to be UND.  Our dr. told us that with an UND at 4 weeks the riba reduction would unlikely affect his chances of SVR.  You're probably in good shape.  It's pretty normal to be worried, however.
