Is my body clearing the Hep C??

I just recently tested positive for the Hep C antibody. I found out today my viral load was 1,200. They do not know the genotype yet. Last time I could have been infected was about 2 months ago. Does the low viral load count mean my body is fighting it off?? Also is possible to clear genotype 1 spontaneously without treatment or does that only happen for types 2 or 3??    Thanks for any help. I know I should be happy having such a low count, yet still very depressed that I have this.

Low viral count doesn't mean anything except perhaps an easier time clearing the virus on treatment. Geno 1's can clear the virus but that happens in the first 6 months after exposure. Chances are that someone who was exposed will develop chronic hepatitis C (any viral load 6 months after exposure). If you really think the antiboides were from a two months ago exposure, I would discuss treating now because geno 1's have over a 90% cure rate if they treat while the disease is acute.

Just found out I am geno type 1b. The nurse practitioner I have initially was pushing for treating now while the count was low and that I may still be in the acute phase. Now she says we should wait a couple of months I am not really sure why, I have decided to get a second onion at Mass General.

The disease is classified as acute when the person is infected with the virus for a time period not exceeding six months, and classified as chronic for any infection for over six months.   good luck

susie is 100% correct.  Treating while in the acute stage is always better than

chronic.  Your low viral load suggests a favorable outcome if you treat now.

I would go for it.
