If you type milk thistle or silymarin the 'search this community' search field, you will be able to find a lot of discussions on milk thistle.

To: sassy183,
There was a pretty good recent article in the Journal of Heptology. It's conclusion is that Milk Thistle will not affect the course of the illness. Doesn't have any ability to slow the progress of the disease. But it might alleviate symptoms associated with liver disease.

Milk Thistle is an herbal diuretic, last I heard.  Whenever a doctor prescribes a diuretic, he will most likely prescribe a potassium supplement.  If you take Milk Thistle wouldn't you think that it would rob you of some electrolytes or potassium?  Some ppl have rec'd benefit from taking Milk Thistle, yet the studies don't share that thought.  Could it be that Milk Thistle and the benefit rec'd could be an imagined benefit?  My point is, if you tried tx and you were a non-responder wouldn't it be more beneficial to take a prescribed diuretic?  Even if you don't suffer from edema, it would increase your liver function, just a thought.  later
