My baby touched the toilet flusher latch and then put fingers in her mouth

Hi, a friend of mine was over our house today and had used the bathroom. My friend is very promiscuous. I am very concerned over my 16 month old daughter because about 30 minutes after he had used the bathroom, i went in the bathroom with my daughter to give her her bath. I only turned my back on her for a few seconds to start the water for the bath when i realized that i heard my daughter jiggling the flusher latch for th toilet. the flusher latch for the toilet, before i got a chance to stop her she had put her fingers in her mouth!! My question is, could my daughter contract hepatitis c or b if there were traces of urine on the latch ?? I know blood that is infected with hepatitis c or b could live on a surface for up to 4 days and hepatitis b, for up to 6 weeks. I dont think he was bleeding but could she still contract the virus if there were particles of urine on the latch ?? Please help, I am so worried for my daughter..

Thankss

Perhaps the best thing to do in this situation is speak to a doctor, not a bunch of folks who have contracted HCV in their own ignorance of the disease? Believe me none of us thought we were going to get it but we did.

I'm sure even your OCDoc could answer this question for you. It never makes sense when people are SOOOOoooooo worried that they'd jump on the internet and trust the words of strangers over their trusted doctor. NO sense to me at all.

you have to understand that we get a lot of transmission questions on this forum. we also get an unusual amount of people with OCD. the members on this forum are struggling with the disease and trying to live a somewhat normal life. the drugs we take have very serious side effects and some of us have a short fuse (me included). it's just odd that you joined this website and only asked your question on the HCV forum, and not any other forum here. aren't you worried about other social diseases that she could have come in contact with, especially with a promiscuous person in the house? some of us think it's the same person with OCD asking these transmission questions under different usernames. i'm not saying you are, but it is what it is. you got your answer and i wish you good luck with your daughter.

peace out

Thankyou for commenting, & yes, it def is! My daughter as of yet is still in pampers but dread the thought of letting her use a public toilet when she's clean.

Blood to blood transmission only.  Keeping children's hands off of dirty things especially in public restrooms is a challenge.  No worries for Hep C though.

Thankss for answering back, and yes, i could have googled it but i guess i was just interested in hearing an opinion from someone else. I have been struggling with severe ocd for about 15 years now..i am a real germ-phobic and actually do alot of research. I have wet ones in my bag no matter where i go, and when my husband n i go out to eat i never let my daughter touch a thing until i wipe virtually everything down, wipe down the shopping carts, etc, etc.

I sure wouldn't have given my baby daughter a bath with such a promiscuous person of the opposite sex in the house.

But no you don't get hepc from pee if you did think of all the public doorknobs that you have touched over the years then get your own self tested.

No risk at all, if you can find this forum you should be able to use google and research hep c transmission with out any problems. Please educate yourself before you do put yourself or your daughter in a position to contract hep c
