"Oh, by the way..."MRI One Year Later

Last year at this time a CT scan and MRI followup discovered a  lesion in my cirrhotic liver that was showing  a probability of 80% likelihood of cancer. Went from thinking I was perfectly healthy to: "You've had Hep C for about 40 years, your liver is cirrhotic, and oh, by the way, we think you have cancer and will need a liver transplant".

I started screening and tests for liver transplant last March. After treating with Sovaldi/Olysio I'm Hep C free and EOT24 SVR, as of the end of January.  The inflammation in my liver has decreased, and the lesion is stable according to a CT scan and 5 MRI's over the past 12 months.

What a difference a year makes: I'm Hep C free, good chance I don't have HCC, and am getting on with my life. I've gone from the pits of despair to a life of hope-

I'm posting this on the anniversary of my bad news last year to remind everyone that happy endings to the Hep C mess are possible- good luck to everyone thinking about starting treatment!

Wonderful news.  There does seem to be more and more reasons to be hopeful for future liver health if the virus is cleared.  Wishing you continued health.

That is great news and gives me some hope.

I'm a long term HCV victim with cirrhosis and a non-responder after two bouts of interferon and ribavirin treatments.  I recently started a 24 week Harvoni treatment and after two weeks  my viral load went from 5.5 million to 19. At the end of a month...NOT DETECTED. Those were some mighty big words to hear after years of dealing with this dragon. Other than a low platelet count from an enlarged spleen, I've had the first normal CBC and CMP blood tests since I can remember  I'm already feeling better and my energy level has increased.

Right now my AFP levels are high so I'm having a CT scan next week as well as an endoscopy to check for varices. Hopefully there will be no HCC but I'm on pins and needles in anticipation of positive results.

Thanks for sharing your story!
