Appendisitis

Hello,  my mom asked me to post for her. She had her appendix removed and is currently resting up in the hospital. She's going good and is in good spirits and will be home in a few days.

Thanks!

Woohoo, welcome back, babe!!  You have been missed big time by many :)

Pleased to hear you are making a good recovery from both the op and your tx, that Hb count is something to be envious for sure!  I don't think I can imagine what 12 would feel like!

Such a great idea to take care of the whole Trish, funny how the body finds ways of saying "what about meeeeee" and making us take notice.

Anyway, I wish you all the best for your holiday and family time!

Wow...I'm looking at the date on the last post here and today is Dec. 19th.   It's been awhile. I hope you'll understand and forgive the absence. Since I have been on forced "vacation" from work, I decided to take a vacation from everything for awhile and just rest my body and my mind at the same time...once I start back to work, it will be full steam ahead again and there will not be a chance to rest like this again.. and I'm NOT willing to lose another body part each time I need a vacation!!

Thanks so much for all the lovely words to and about my daughter.  She was reading your comments to me and I said to her "Do you see why this place is so special to me?" and she had no problem whatsoever understanding that.  Thank you for blessing my daughter with your comments.  She is a lovely daughter inside and out and I'm very lucky to have had her to help me out.  She was a little worried about her mom, they had a tube coming out of my abdomen draining the infection for the time I was in the hospital and we were lucky they caught it when they did.

However.  I've rebounded very well (after admittedly a great deal of pain initially!) and I'm doing great.  I'll be going back to work on Monday, I'm back driving my manual transmission and the pain is only enough to remind me to still take it easy and not push it too hard just yet.

Have to be honest .. it was not an easy time mentally during the recovery phase...went into it battling the depression.  Focusing on recovering from the surgery gave me a break from that for awhile, oddly enough and as the pain wore off and the recovery moved along the depression started coming back in and that's why I took the physical and mental break while I was forced to be off of work.  I just needed to take care of my whole self while the opportunity presented itself.

I think it has helped alot.  I'm starting to see glimmers of the old Trish coming through and I'm on my way back.  I intend to keep building on that.  I pick up my son from the airport in a few hours - he's coming home from San Diego for Christmas - I start back to work on Monday and I pick up my daughters on Christmas Eve so that we'll all be together again for a few days over the holidays.  That will be the very *best* medicine.

I saw my hepatologist in Toronto this past Thursday, Dr. H. wanted to "eyeball" me after my latest adventure.  Things continue to improve in that regard and by yesterday I have been taken off the antibiotics!!  My CD4 count is up to 288 which is still on the low side but recovered enough to forgo the antibiotics.  I'm SO excited.  For awhile, the issue with the appendix made me wonder what else was going wrong in my body and it got me down and then with a little work on the attitude, I've decided that this is the last bang and I'm on the mend now and getting taken off the antibiotics is a really good indication of that!!  My ANC is a whopping 6.1!!!!  It was .9 in the hospital and my hgb had dropped down to 10.0 and is now back up to 12.0.  I think the girl is back. :)

And hm.....was I a good patient?  I think I was. :)  I was appreciative of my nurses who were (mostly) great, and yep, asked alot of questions and played along nicely.  Only thing I got frustrated at was the time it would take when I finally HAD to ring the buzzer for help .. so started rolling myself out of bed and carefully manipulating myself to plug / unplug my IV pole from the wall myself and get myself around and then I just managed it on my own after that and they let me.

Thank you so much for the support and well wishes.  It meant so much to me when I came home from the hospital and my daughter read all your comments to me.  I'm happy to be back and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support.

It's really good to hear that your mom is home and doing well. It's also great to see and understand what she's coming home to -- the fact that you posted here for her speaks volumes for the family dynamics and trust and comraderie that must be.  I'm sure it'll make for her speedy recovery.

Trish, we'll look forward to your return.  All my best wishes,

Hi Kelly-

I missed the part about the perforation. That could have been serious; good thing they caught it!
Thanks for bringing us up to speed—

Hi Trish,

I had an appendix one time too :o). Did thy catch it before it got too bad? Boy, I remember mine hurting really badly before I finally dealt with it; at least it’s one less thing to worry about now. I hope you recover well; let us know how it goes, OK?

Take care—

So glad for the update.  It's always better to be home=)  Here's to hoping that this was the root of some of the probs that were going on.

Thank goodness they got it when they did.

I'm betting I won't be the only one to ask the docs to check my appendix next time my labs whack out, lol!

That's your mama...blazing trails.

Please give her my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I dunno about that, my monopoly money is that they didn't keep her a minute more then needed. :)

Kelly sounds like you have a good sense of humor.... Stay well both of you.

Hi Trish,
I'm glad you're home from the hospital, and feeling better. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery, but pls take it easy, that's another huge assault on your body, when you're still recovering from tx. Take care.

I just read all your posts to my mom, she's lying on the bed at the moment resting up. She got home from the hospital this afternoon. Her appendix was perforated and starting to spread infection so we caught it at a good time.

She says to tell you thank you for your thoughts and well wishes it really perked her up. She says yes she has a wonderful daughter and is very lucky (which I remind her of whenever I can :P) She is thinking of all of you and will back soon.

She says hang in there yourselves! and she'll be talking to you soon.

Thank you, Kelly. It means a lot to hear from you about your mom. She's a wonderful, generous and dynamic person, and I miss her posts.

In her last post, she mentioned she'd lost her appetite big time, which is such a common symptom of appendix problems. I wonder if it was connected. Who would have thought that was going on, with so many other things to think about.

It's the best news possible that she's now safely taken care of that problem. Hope she gets some much-deserved rest in the hospital.

Warmest regards to you and your family.

My heart goes out to both of you. No one wants to be in the hospital esp. during the holidays. I hope she finds some relief from previous side effects when she heals from surgery. Take good care.
Wishing you and your mom a happy holiday and a healthy New Year!
