You further identified that your pain is sometimes right sided back pain that comes and goes. As I mentioned earlier, gallbladder issues usually cause referred pain that can show up as back pain...mine did.
Hi Puppiepaws,
I went through the same thing-pain in the liver area. I asked my liver specialist what it was. He explained the same thing ‘The Liver has a membrane, so when it gets inflamed you will feel some pressure. When I went on Interferon Treatment for Hep C, the pain went away almost immediately after I finished the treatment, the Hep C came back and so did the pain.
I have found way's to live with it now. When I am sore it is a warning to slow down and take it easier on my liver. More rest, eat better, and most importantly cut out stress. I have found when I do slow down, quit worrying the pain goes away. You have to remember hep C is an inflammation disease. When you are run down the virus, wreaks havoc. When you are relaxed and your immune system is working at its peak. The virus doesn’t stand a chance. The way you deal with your health is so important. There are ways naturally to decrease even reverse the damage hep c can cause. There are many amazing people on this websites that know allot about overcoming the problems with this virus. Go to Hepatitis Technology. Com and read Todd's Story. He has both Hep C and Hep b; he almost had to have a liver transplant. He started taking supplements and working with a Hepatitis researcher. They came up with a health formula naturally, that actually reverses liver damage.
I wrote this to you because I had that pain in my side for along time and it was very frustrating.
I still have the virus but I have learned how to co-exist with it. I have just started taking The Hepatitis Technology formula and I have changed my diet. I am quite amazed how much better I feel!
I hope this information will help you. It has helped tremendously!
Take care,
Jon
meakea: I had the same situation - had a dull ache in my front right quadrant. After treatment...nothing. And same, I was Grade 1, Stage 1.
puppiepaws: I get pain in the back area on my right side when I haven't had enough water to drink, I have had different minor issues over the years relating to my kidneys and, again, when I haven't had enough water to drink and I'm dehydrating or when doing exercise and not hydrating enough, same thing only different., I can feel it in my right back area. My urine also gets darker when I'm not hydrated enough. If you think it's more than that, I'd concur with others and get it checked out.
Thats is were I had my pain when they found a kidney stone in the right kidney. It can usually be seen on ultrasound or a KUB xray
good luck

I would advise seeing a doctor. Even though test were normal. It wouldn't be the first time a doctor missed something. It isn't normal to have a lot of pain in the abdomen.
People with liver pain usually have very advanced liver disease or liver cancer but in your case I am sure you don't have cirrhosis as you would have mentioned it. It believe it is a lot more common to have gallstones.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks to all u great people.. its good to have a great support team...The pain sometimes is in my back area on right side.. kinda strange.. comes and goes... I will survive it and soon as i see the doc i will mention it... Have a awesome day
Abdominal pain is one of the most common physical complains
in human history .It doesn`t hurt to do an ultrasound.
I had an ache/pain in my right side for about 13 years prior to being diagnosed with HCV. When I was dx'd with HCV I asked my GI if the pain could be from the liver and he said the same thing...the liver doesn't feel pain. There never was an explanation for that pain but after my successful treatment for HCV, the pain went away. So...I still believe it was associated with the liver. I had my gallbladder out years ago and it did not made a difference in that pain. (BTW...gallbladder pain is usually in the back -- referred pain).
Even though I had that R sided pain/discomfort for all those years, my liver biopsy was Grade 1 so it's not necessarily a sign that your liver is really bad. So...don't worry...but at the same time, if you haven't mentioned it to a doctor, you should do so.
I imagine, but it would probably have to be significant. When I was having pain, I had ultrasound, & MRI and they said everything looked OK... then a couple months later they discovered the HCV so..............

can liver swelling be seeing on ultrasound?
I have read that the liver itself has no pain receptors (nerves), but the membrane that surrounds it does, so swelling would cause pain. I had pain in that area before tx, and I had my gallbladder removed 14 years ago.

i forgot to add iam a relapser....
