Are dairy products and milk dangerous for HCV patients?

Hi to all,
I used to drink a glass of milk daily night before sleeping but now i am affraid to drink milk since i have read in an article that milk and dairy products are dangerous for HCV patients due to high amount of Vitamin A and Iron.
Is it so? If yes then how much quantity of Milk is safe to consume on daily basis?
Take Care of yourself and be happy,
Thanks,
Naeem

You have added a comment on a 9 year old thread. If you have a question or a comment you would like to be noticed by all I suggest you select the green post a question link at the top right of the page to ask a new question or add a new topic for discussion.

Just wanted to add to your comment I have cirrhosis and hopefully will be cured of hep c by the newly approved medicines.

If I am cured which I will know in 4 weeks this treatment with Harvoni will have added decades to my life plus avoiding a slow death from advancing liver disease which was my expectation if I did not eridacate the hepatitic virus soon.

It is true people are living longer; but mainly because of the reduction of women who once died during child birth. There is no evidence however that drugs have extended life any. In fact, there is evidence that drugs have reduced life expectancy---and consider all the TV adds "if you have taken q you may have grounds for a law suit--or if you have taken d or if you have taken or have been implanted with mesh and on and on.

I know sometimes we don't agree on everything, who does? but thank you for this, I sometimes think that people think I'm crazy, maybe cause they don't know too many people who value nutrition, and all it can do for you, so they don't see it for themselves...

The people I know who don't treat themselves very well, well, the years "aren't" kind to them...as they may have been to us, because we believe in taking care of ourselves, and I don't mean that in a snooty way, I want people to value themselves and their lives, that's all...

And when people say, oh, well my life wouldn't mean anything if I couldn't eat KFC and gobs of goo all the time, that just doesn't make sense to me...I'm not saying you have to be as diciplined as me or whatever, but just take some care in what you eat and do to yourself...you'll feel and look way better...

But I also know that you can't force people to change, and we all have different value systems and priorities...I just figure, if youre going to go through a ruthless treatment process, only to "maybe" sabotage it with drinking, eating extremely bad, etc....and treating yourself physically badly...what's the darn point?

I do realize that people have a hard time eating things, and they just have to settle with what they can get down, but some of those things can be healthy and filled with nutrition that your immune system needs to fight the virus as well...

I mean, I do think this has a little to do with what your basic lifestyle was beforehand, cause when you go to Jovo or a site like that, with a lot of people treating, they stilll for the most part are taking good care of themselves, and I dont mean that to be judging,

like I said, I hate to hear of people suffering maybe needlessly...cause on Jovo they just don't seem to suffer from bad sides as much, although I realize that some people will have bad sides no matter what...

I never said you ate badly...I know there is a ground-swell of protest due to the fact that our basic privacy rights are slowly being eroded...but I swear, I didnt' tap your phone lines or set up secret video cameras in your kitchen...watching your every move, you know, TV viewing, eating habits, etc...I swear I didn't!!!!

got you there babe, I don't mind getting older, just "looking" older, ha ha ha! heck, Sophia Loren still gets cat calls when she's walking down the street, and the woman's in her mid-70s! I saw her once at a premire, and I can tell you, she still has the most beautiful skin! It's glowing! It's not all genes either, she says she gets sleeps 8-9 hours a night, exercises, and eats plenty of fruits, fish and veggies with her pasta!

Maybe it's because there are a lot of health conscious people here, and let's be honest, VAIN Hollywood people here, ha ha! but that vanity translates to healthy living a lot of times...I see older people all the time, but they look great! I still like getting cat calls too, ha ha! (though I'd never admit it to anyone, don't tell okay Chev) Not ready to cash in my chips! And please, like you I bet, I still have junk food once in awhile, just not as a habit...and if I do eat something bad, I try to have a veggie or fruit with it, an avocado, whatever...

I like reading you nutritinal advice. I think there's a lot to it too. And you don't ram it down our throats - leave it to us to take what we want. I don't think I eat as bad as you think I do either. And I don't remeber when I last had a goat, heck I rarely even flirt with'em anymore.

See that R. Chandler quote up there? I think he must of just drank a 5th of Jim Beam and crashed out in La Jolla before that...

yeah, dont think I'll win the popular vote on nutrition here...but I do love goats, that does say a lot!!!

I firmly believe that anyone can do, eat, drink, smoke, shoot, whatever they dang please...but there are people out there who do not know about everything they ingest, and I do think it's fair that people talk about different aspects of these questions, just to put the info out there...but of course, people can ultimately take it or leave that info as they see fit...

I used to love milk, I had it all the time with cereal, etc....I also had bad, bad allergies and the beginnings of asthma...went to a special doctor who specialized in nutrition, and like Kalios says, we can avail ourselves of plenty of docs like this in California which I think is great...

Anyway, first thing he told me was to get off milk, this is before I had told him much....he just saw my red nose and all my sniffing...told me it's mucous and it forms mucous in the system...it's full of steroids, vaccinations, and god knows what else, and there are people who can digest it better then others, but it's hard to digest for anybody really...some people just get more of a physical reaction...

Within a week my allergies subsided for the most part, though they were still there, they weren't anything, anything like before...also digestion issues I had subsided as well...I'm not technically lactose intolerant, I prob just have a stronger reaction to cow's milk then most people...I saw this woman on my street and her daughter had ecsema(?) all over her face and the little girl seemed very embarrassed by it,

I told the lady why not switch her to rice milk, or some other kind of milk, (lactose free)for a week or two, see if it clears up, cause milk can cause skin reactions in some people (that comment on this thread about it making the riba rash worse?, who knows...) anyway, saw her about a month later and she was so grateful to me...her daughter's face was mostly clear now...she started her on rice milk....she told me how did I know so much? she had taken her daughter to a few pedeatritions, etc. I told her I had just gone to a really good doctor, I have asked many people in my lifetime to quit milk to see if something or another clears up, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

I do agree with whoever said that we attach a lot of comfort to certain kinds of foods, nostalgia, etc. cause that's what are parents fed us in sometimes happier times of childhood, etc. and I can understand why some people would object to giving certain things up and not changing diets, etc...this has got a definite psychological component to it...

But I also think that in this country particularly, our diets can sometimes be extremely unhealthful, and the amount of obesity, diabetes, heart disease among other things in this country is astounding...yet these same people who have these terrible diets would never think of overdrinking, smoking, etc...cause that's bad for you! there's just too much irony in that...

Most doctors just don't emphasize these types of issues for the most part, except the younger ones, they didn't even teach much about nutrition in medical school until lately...and I firmly believe that if a doc has a bad diet himself, he/she is not about to tell patients about it much...plus many of them just don't know a helluva lot about nutrition, and with many docs, what they don't know about, they often discount...

This big study coming out of the Netherlands saying that a bad diet is prob just about as bad for your health as years of smoking didn't surprise me in the least...our bodies need good food to run well, like a car needs oil...but like I said, people can do whatever they please...and I do understand that the deal is kind of skewed when your on meds and need to eat whatever you can put down...

girl , I appriciate you considering my delima , but dont think for a moment that at 49 , I'm going to let ANYONE try and modify the bad habits that took me all these years to perfect. I'll do anything in my bedroom that I da*n well please. I'll even lay in bed , eat ice cream any worry all night long if I want to and may be the happiest and most exhausted person I know.
And , I dare say that you and everyone else here feels the same way. Thats what make the entire "sleep Hygiene" concept so ridicules.

Yup, they have hagen-daaz and Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia served right to you. Gotta love it!

John and I usually take the grandbabies when we can, so I don't sit much either LOL.  Lately I have to leave early cuz I can't sit that long. Last week I was feeling so out of breath I had John drop me at the elevator. They wanted to see my disabiliy pass. I don't have one, they let me in anyway. My Doc just gave me a temp placard for the car, which comes with a paper saying I am disabled.

I was thinking about your dilemna of not going to the bedroom. If my doc put locks and chains on my bedroom door, I would just head to our guest room, or one of the kids rooms and throw them out!

I took my Sonata last night. Slept like a baby. I woke up at 6am, got on the computer then fell back asleep for a few more hours. This sure beats not sleeping!

I usually stay at the Hyatt on Stockton downtown , but I just decided to go in the last couple of days and havent made any arrangement yet. I'll let you know whenever my wife tells me.

It sounds great , but I dont know if I could sit through a baseball game right now. I guess I could just go and eat Ice Cream. Do they have those vanilla cones dipped in chocolate and peanuts?

Yup, ice cream is most pleasurable time of day...so if I eat it breakfast, lunch and dinner and then between meals I am happy as a clam! The bigger the bowl the better. I think the next thing is to shop for a special BIG ice cream bowl!

I had some homemade icecream the other day and they put brownies on top.OMG that was heaven!  So far I have lost a lb,  not a lot when I need to be 15 lbs lighter. Not worried about that right now though.

Cool that you are coming to San Franciso!  Great city. Let me know when you come. I can give you some club level Giants seats. They serve ice cream to you in your seat! Also our 4 seats are NOT in the sun. They also have Giradelli hot fudge sundaes-the best!

Do you know where you are staying?

What is it about this disease and treatment that makes us think that we now have an "all you can eat" ice cream pass? I have always been too much of a BlueBell fan , but since I started tx , and reading you other ice cream addicts posts , its like , I think I'll have another bowl! This time , I'm going to break up some macadamia nut/ white chocolate cookies on top of it and douse the whole thing with some chocolate syrup and if the bowl will handle it , a couple of big spoons of whipped cream on top and one in my mouth. 10+ weeks of this and I havent gained a pound. Lost two actually. Sometimes life IS good , tx or not.

sfbaygirl: I Gotta stay out of the sun and heat with this stupid rash this summer (so they say) but family still wants a vacation. The only place that I have to wear a sweater in August , San Francisco. I love it... can't wait.

I dont know how I missed this discussion yesterday , but you all seemed to cover all of the bases. Still , I cant resist putting in my two cents worth , not that anyone should even care what I think.
Rocker: dont stop what your doing , you know that. Question authority when ever given the oportunity. This would be a pretty boring forum if we all agreed with each other all the time. However...

We have to consider that most of us are at an age that , as youngsters , milk represented all that was good and wholesome in the world and I know that I , and I'm sure many of you , had grandparents and even parents that grew up in a time of "drink it right out of the cow" milk consumption. We were never taught to question whether or not the people that were in the position of deciding what was safe and what wasn't safe to eat and drink were doing anything less than making sure of that very thing.
As we all started getting older and hopfully a little wiser , many of us tapered off our milk consumtion not because we were afraid of catching Bovine AIDS (which I think the possibility is  bovine scatology anyway) , but because it was making us FAT and many of our digestive systems couldn't deal with it anymore.

I visited the NOTMILK webb site and understood the site completely when the first thing I saw was a picture of Ralph Nader. I knew this whole milk thing smacked of conspiracy. I also found that the relationship of any of the bovine viruses and human infection from those viruses was 1., either speculation or unproven theory of the Milk Letter author and 2.it is stated many times in that letter that the transmission of bovine viruses to human through milk consumption has never been proven but is more of a "what if" proposition .

I cant drink Milk at night,. When I lay down , it ends up back in my throat through reflux action , But I like it , I like my family to drink and enjoy it and would myself if I could.
Also keep in mind that we all have a disease that came from HUMAN blood... If we spent more of our research money on getting rid of this virus instead of worrying about drinking milk , maybe none of us would be here anyway.
Thats just my humble opinion , but I could be wrong.

Hey girl, they are on our favorite topic ICE CREAM!  I scream for ice cream! I scream for ice cream. Luckily I have a great husband who will go get it whenever I want.

Seems like many are in a squabble, but to me it is what makes my miserable day more tolerable. I drink milk, sometimes buying the cheapest one,  eat ice cream and have fudgicles. These foods are the only thing I seem to able to get down. They make me feel good as I eat and drink them. Ice cream gives me pleasure, and god knows, I don't get it much these days.

Maybe it's bad for me, but I could be finding pleasure drinking a glass of wine instead. My docs seem to think its fine, especially since I have little appetite for anything else. As long as it makes me feel good I will continue to drink milk and eat ice cream.

This is really tough.  The way I see it, every thing we eat, drink and every breath we take has things that are not good for us but hey we have to live with the world that has been handed to us.  I have read reports on things and one minute it's bad for ya, then the next is ok. First sweet and low will cause cancer, then they say further research proves it doesn't, go figure. I don't think any answer is right or wrong at this point.

Any word on when you'll do your PCR?

Dairy cattle are infected with bovine immunodeficiency
viruses (BIV) and bovine leukemia viruses (BLV), worldwide.
(Bovine immunodeficiency viruses can also be properly
referred to as bovine AIDS viruses..................

In an attempt to get this back to a more informative discussion, can anyone explain the significance of the bovine virus? Are humans suceptible? Tomato plants carry many viri, should I be worried about that too?

I use the Lactaid milk on my cereal.  I don't eat a lot of cheese, but sometimes I do.  I eat ice cream because I'm addicted to it.  I eat 4 TBLS of plain yogurt every morning for medicinal purposes.  It helps prevent yeast infections.  One thing is though....    I detest a health-food type of diet.  I'm not wild about soy.  I really don't like Splenda.  Also, I will never be a vegetarian because I like meat and don't want to give it up.  I have a normal weight 130-138 range, for my height 5'8" this is a healthy weight.  If I had to live on beans and soy and veg. and fruit, I'd die of starvation because I really don't like to eat that way.
