Hi
Those numbers are your viral load or how many copies of the virus are in you blood per a given volumn. Viral load is not that important really just a way to monitor progress on treatment.
Normally once a patient has been established as having hep c viral loads are not generally drawn.
For comparison my results are
HCV RNA RT-PCR, QT IU/mL 2,422,260 and
HCV LOG 10 log10 IU/mL 6.384
Basically two ways of looking at the same information the second is on a logarithmic scale. Again doesnt mean much as far as treatment success or severity of illness just to monitor treatment.
Looks like our numbers are very similar

1) If you never treat the odds are very high you will die of something other than Hep C. You wil have chronic liver disease. Your liver will slowly worsen in condition. But nonetheless, death from other cause is much more likely to win the race.
2) Don't be scared.
3) Get a lot of info, and not just from your doctor. If docs do not tell you of very seriosu risks and problems that may arise from treatment, then they are uninformed or not concerned enough about them to be carefully treating you.
4) Non treatment might well be a rational course to follow. I am almost sure that at least through triple therapoy combinatiopns, it has been the better odds play if you wanted to live a good life. Many will disagree. Say "drug company" and many still think "Jonas Salk" instead of "corporate board room." To each his own.
5) google "anti d Hepatitis C" and then "east germany" and then "ireland". follow the links until you get to the actual journal articles. read them, carefully. the4 information is enlightening an dapplicable, especially the article about the population of Irish women as to the level of fear you have right now.
6) Find out how the drugs they propose to give you actually work in your body. make your doctor say it. ask ask ask. get an understanding, so you know what it is you actually contemplate doing.
7) tretaments keep popping up all th etime, and it takes a few (or seven) years for complications / side effects to be acknowledged and accepted. Be very careful of pharma marketing.
8) many peoeple treat with little lasting seriosu bad effect. Up to now, however, the % of those that suffer serious bad effect just about equal or are the same % of those that woudl die if not treated. A lot of money being spent for not much net societal good.
9) your response rate goes down the older you are. Ask your doc to tell you how much for the treatemnt he / she proposes. See if they can tell you.
10) re-read 1 and 2 above :-)

Hello I just learned some information today regarding fruit. You say you eat fruit, salads, meat. Try to find berries, and fruits lower in fructose. I am searching for a chart on fruit fructose. I was diagnosed w/ fatty liver over the summer and I wish I had known to eat it more moderately and discriminately. Apples and other fruits with fiber are a good choice but some apples have higher fructose than others. This is the reason I'm looking for a good chart on this.
Also go with leaner cuts of meat and in moderation. Hope this info is helpful. Good luck to you.
thank you I want as much information so when I go to the doctor this coming Thursday at least I know about meds and different tx
It's so smart of you to seek out information and support. As you have read, this is no longer a death sentence, but is serious.
The new medications will give you an opportunity to live out a good life. Stay with online support too!
Hi there upset and welcome. I doubt if this will make sense to you now, but finding out that you have a virus that can be cured is really good news. Now don't get me wrong as its not great to find out you have Hep C, but if it were not discovered you could have become very ill and not known why.
The most difficult aspect is not knowing. Once the Drs form a strategy for treatment you will be on your way to recovery. You may have not felt well for years, and if so, now you know why.
The medication they use to cure this virus is a pill that you take typically for
12 weeks. It's a new treatment that's only been out recently and has few side effects. Once treatment is over, you will likely feel better then you have been for years. It's really a miracle drug, and as Lynn has stated if your going to have this virus, now is the best time for it to happen.
You are not alone as millions of people worldwide have Hep C. It's actually an epidemic and in the past we only had very harsh treatment that rarely worked. In 2014 everything changed.
Please know that we are here to help and support you as you will not go thru this alone. Any questions or concerns will be answered.
Each and everyone of us has walked in your shoes and understand the initial fear. You are going to be OK,
Best wishes
.....Kim
Here are a few popular ones
TX treatment
DX diagnosed
SVR sustained viral response ie SVR12 is a sustained viral response (still undetectable) 12 weeks post treatment
EOT end of treatment
UND undetectable
May you see SVR12 post EOT and continued UND
thank you, you have given me very good information now I know what to ask my doctor and not totally blind, tomorrow they are doing mri and scan and I don't understand when you said best type of tx is that meaning treatment duh another question does this make you itch a lot.
thank you for the positive feed back but I will keep you up to date apt on the 11 and we will see what said but thank you for reaching I feel better already.
It could be just symptoms from the virus and not Gall Stones. The virus creates lots of symptoms bar liver disease and other issues but we have the habit of attributing the viral symptoms to something else. The virus makes us very sick and when It's gone is when you notice how bad the virus is. Not much talk around about the viral symptoms itself. Lots about other health issues symptoms. It's scary I know but you are going to be ok. As someone on another site said: "Help is just around the corner". Your appt. will come in no time. Try not to stress. Come back and tell us how you are doing when you get your MELD lab results. There is a very big chance that you will be cured in 2015.
One other thing, a doctor told me to try to avoid surgery near the gall bladder for now. He said just try to eat very little fat foods and eat smaller meals. Although I still eat healthy fat foods successfully, I've noticed there is a limit and every time I eat a little too much even healthy good fats --result is breathing sharp pains under my ribs that get out of control painful. That is when I have to take things to counteract and soothe that area of stomach, GB and pancreas. I just slow down on fat intake, apple cider vinegar/honey, aloe vera juice, wobenzyme enzymes and it goes away until I eat too much fat again. It's a delicate balance. Sometimes have to go to ER when I really go overboard and eat a piece of cheescake, or once all it took was eating a piece of quiche to send me to ER but that was when I was on treatment.
Make sure your doctor does extensive labs on you given your age and not knowing how long you've had hcv, do not worry -just find out your viral load and if you have liver fibrosis and if so, what level of fibrosis. Put your doctor to work and do not feel you are asking too much. Have them find out everything before treating you, this will determine the best type of tx and length of time you need to be treated.
If you have gallstone pain and extreme difficulty with digestion that can be a problem and very difficult to deal with. Find out your liver status before you have any surgeries is something I've learned over the years. I have had gallstone -pancreas inflammation over the years and has been worse in past 5 years. I have compensated cirrhosis due to hcv but was treated with the new drugs last Summer and achieved a "Cure" status from HCV recently. I still have the cirrhosis but to a lesser degree almost immediately after becoming hcv undetectable.
Make sure your doctor is pro-active and gets you on tx as soon as possible given your age. That's one thing I noticed when I turned 60, at age 63 my health and hcv symptoms got MUCH Worse and my viral load increased
substantially,
One more thing, if your doctor does not seem very pro-active to help you ASAP. Try to find a Hepatologist who is affiliated with a Univ. hospital and get a second opinion. This will save you a lot of wasted time and risk. You don't need to see the hepatologist all the time but they are good for referring you to best drug treatment for your particular needs and they are excellent at ordering labs and testing that you need. Like AWorriedMom said the best is you should feel lucky it is 2014 and not 1990.
Hi and welcome to Medhelp although I am sorry you have to be here. It is normal and common to be fearful when you are first diagnosed. But some of us, myself included, were diagnosed soon after the disease was discovered in 1989. At that time there was only one treatment and it made people feel quite ill and lasted 48 weeks. It's success rate was approximately 10%. Now, treatment is 12 weeks or the majority of patients, with minimal side effects, and a success rate above 90%. So take a deep breath and feel lucky it is 2014, not 1990. We can honestly tell people now that they will be fine and very soon hep C will be a thing of the past for them. Wishing you the very best.
I am west coast and work second shift but heading for bed now. I probably need to do better but I just eat what I want no special diet. Today I had eggs bacon and 2 toaster waffles then later a slice of pizza for lunch. But I do sort of try to avoid salt in general tho
All my best to you
Lynn
thank you just need to calm down I will know soon enough because all the test have been done but they just did M R I because they think I may have gall stones so I have a lot going on thank you again for your support
I have had all my test done and I will see him on the 11th of this month I guess I am just scared
Slow down. You need to let your doc help you. You need to go through the entire process. Tests, labs, and all the preliminary. Your doc will determine what if any treatment you can be approved for. You were recently diagnosed. Stay calm. Gets your labs done.
thank you so much and the support I am really going to need it I did not think any one was still up but me
Thank you for the information because you know I am scared as hell will my diet need to change I am a meat eater and salad and fruit and what seems to be the best meds for this did you have to be on a special diet.
I have had hep c probably since 1978. I have genotype 1a also and was diagnosed with cirrhosis in Jan 2008. I am a 56 y/o female.
Why would you want to take shots? That was the old treatments that were not that effective and many weeks long. The current state of the art for genotype 1 is Harvoni one pill a day for 12 to 24 weeks depending on how much liver damage you have. Some can treat for as few a 8 weeks. There are also newer drugs supposed to be approved this month more pills same duration. Both treatments are very effective in eradicating hep c and are well tolerated by most.
Hang in there you will be cured before the summer is over I would bet on it
Good luck
Lynn
