Thank you very much
I will do your recommendation to post in cirrhosisgroup
With myself study and researches, the lab test that I posted are of my own preference so that I could monitor the status of my health problem and in preparation in seeking professional services. Ditto, I am in quest of data that are needed to form questions to be address by a physician.
I am grateful for your advice. It helped me much.
thank again. your reply help me a lot in dealing with my health problem
The doctor that ordered these tests should explain to you what the results mean. That is as much a part of their job as ordering the scans. We are not doctors and we don't know your individual health history.
With that said...I will only reference your liver disease as I am not familiar with other conditions or diseases.
C.T. Scan Result as of 12 May 2011
This scan indicates that you have all the common classic complication of liver compensated (Child-Pugh Grade A) cirrhosis.
1. LIVER CIRRHOSIS with any unknown lesions such as HCC, cytes, etc.
2. SPLENOMEGALY (enlarged spleen)
Ultrasound report dated 16 January 2012
1. MILD DIFFUSE HEPETIC PARENCHYMAL DISEASE mean the liver cells, throughout the liver, are affected by a disease process
2. CHOLECYSTITIS IS CONSIDERED SUGGEST CLINICAL CORRELATION AND FOLLOW UP STUDY - There may be inflammation of the gallbladder. This study should be followed up on to reach a complete diagnosis.
You have a number of health issues going on related to your liver. Your doctor should be working with you to get a complete diagnosis and then the doctor should present any treatment options that may be available.
You should talk to your doctor about the possibility of doing HCV therapy before your liver disease (cirrhosis) progresses until you will no longer be able to treat the virus.
Since you have a number of serious health issues going on concurrently, you should be seeing a knowledgeable and experienced gastroenterologist or hepatologist for your conditions. (Sorry, I am not familiar with what health services are available in the Philippines) You should get a referral to a liver transplant clinic if possible where they are qualified to treat someone with cirrhosis and other possible conditions and illnesses.
Best of luck to you!
Hector
According to the CT scan, you are at Stage 4 liver fibrosis (cirrhosis). This is advanced liver fibrosis.
Liver fibrosis can be broken down into the following 5 categories/stages:
0 No scarring
1 Minimal scarring
2 Scarring has occurred and extends outside the areas in the liver that contain blood vessels
3 Bridging fibrosis is spreading and connecting to other areas that contain fibrosis
4 Cirrhosis or advanced scarring of the liver
Cirrhosis is either Compensated or Decompensated.
*Compensated Cirrhosis means the liver is heavily scarred but is still able to perform many bodily functions.
*Decompensated Cirrhosis means that the liver is extensively scarred and unable to function properly.
I looked back at your other posts and saw that you have Genotype 1 Hep C and you have treated twice in the past with Interferon and Ribavirin. Your doctor now wants to treat you with the same medications (which seems like a set up for failure).
In your other thread, I responded and said that if you are going to treat again, it would be wise/best to discuss adding one of the new Protease Inhibitors to the regimen so that you would be taking Interferon, Ribaviron, and a Protease Inhibitor, either Teleprevir of Boceprevir. This triple medication treatment has an overall cure rate of 75-80%. The cure rate is lower for people with Cirrhosis, but a person still has a good chance of cure (and certainly a better chance at cure than if the person does not treat at all).
There are many on this forum with Cirrhosis and they have treated or are currently treating with the triple medication regimen and they are having good success.
It is my opinion that it would be best for you to see a competent Hepatologist at a large medical center (preferably a liver transplant center). A Hepatologist is qualified to treat people with Cirrhosis. Many other MDs are not qualified to treat people with Cirrhosis.
In addition, it is my opinion that you really should treat very, very soon, hopefully with the triple medication regimen. You cannot wait much longer to treat. Your liver fibrosis is progressing and is already at Stage 4 (Cirrhosis). You are still compensated now but you do not know how long you will stay compensated. Once you become decompensated, treatment is much more complicated and you would be quite symptomatic and ill.
