What is the difference between Chronic and Acute HVC? biopsy results in.

I just had biopsy results return saying I had Chronic HVC,my alpha fetoprotein is 5. serum iron is 197 w/TIBC of 138 PT is normal. Hep C viral RNA,PACR quantitative is 675,000,the same as when it was on 12/14.Additional testing will be done to see if I have hemochromotosis also.I had HVC genotyping,I am 1a variant.
Final report on Liver Needle Biopsy:Chronic Hepatitus (hepatitis) w/feature consistent with Hep C viral infection.Grade 3 consisting of a mild interface component and lobular involvement.Stage 0 no fibrosis.
Special stains:Prussian Blue for Iron is 1- to 2+ with variable intracellular distribution.
Comment:The histologic changes may also be seen in resolving acute hepatitus (hepatitis) and drug reactions.The presence of iron may indicate the presence of hemochromatosis.
My alt has doubled every 2 weeks since it was first diagnosed on 11/29/01,It is now ALT 153 and my AST is 65 as of Jan.2/02.I think I caught this as a rescue worker at Ground zero.I was exposed several times from cuts and burns on my hand.Does Chronic mean I could have had it longer? Can anyone interpret this to me in laymans terms? Thanks a bunch!!!!!
