Hi there,,

O.k,I am confused,,
is tx,txing the same as interferon/ribavirin,.??
or is it a differant treatment,?

I know my Doctor says I will be on the one that takes
(hopefully),48 weeks,.,

TX or TXing is treatment no matter what the combo. I take shot 26/48 tomorrow, over half way there.  I'm on 180MCG Pegysas and 1000MG Copegus(Riba). 1B geno.If you need help just send up a note and all here will send support and have taught me a lot getting through TX.

hi saw your post i am geno 2(the letter dont know) you say for example you are 1a,, what does the 'a' signify i have been trying to figure that out the RN that follows me says its' not important. makes me more curious.

good luck with tx *treatment. i sometimes use
sx short for symptom , dx diagnosis, i think they are medical shorthand. not sure.

its so hard to follow these posts, can't always remember where i went last look again for response, or even remember if met someone yet.

i think you have not began tx yet? well good luck, 48 weeks seems long (you didn't really seem bothered by it), but it will go quick.

i was not good at keeping written records thought i was at week 11 just passed 15, it will go quick. and hopefully you will have svr in no time. that is always the best news and helps to encourage further tx when times get hard.

hi and welcome. the abbreviations can be a bit tough in the beginning. someone posted them before and i tried to find them, but couldn't. maybe an old timer will post them all later. it was very helpful to me.

Those abbreviations can be real puzzlers! One time a woman came here and asked " are you all from Texas?" because we kept typing "tx" it's confusing at first.

tx = treatment
bx = biopsy
hx = history
dx = diagnosis

PCR = polymerase chain reaction (DNA sequencing test to determine viralload and genotype)

SVR = sustained viral response
UND = undetectable by PCR/DNA testing, meaning they can't detect any virus ( however that does not mean there isn't any)

It's a lot to take in, but as time goes by it will all sink in.

I learned so so MUCH from this site! The people are just so knowlegable and take this disease (and killing it off) REALLY seriously.

Many times they had MUCH more current information than my doctor did!!!

You see most doctors don't keep up on all of the 'studies' that are constantly being done and the journals that are being published.

So they read out of the old text book and do what it says.

But in the meantime new information has come out to help us better arrange our treatment (tx).  So it's REALLY important that WE ask as many questions as possible and WE learn the studies just in case!

I had learned different information than my doctor knew. It changed my course of treatment from doing the standard 48 weeks to doing 72 weeks. When I went to him and showed him the new data suggesting I do the 72 weeeks he agreed it was correct. I then went to one of the world's specialists for a 2nd opinion (hey I didn't really WANT to do it so I had to be sure) and he said to go for it too.

Now my doc is really reading all of the journals and keeping uptodate so it seems he learned the lesson and this will help other patients in the future too!

You've made a great choice by asking questions. Everyone is so willing to help you learn it all.

In here we can fight like cats and dogs sometimes BUT understand in case you see it - we've been through a lot and sometimes it's just like fighting with a brother or sister. Doesn't mean you don't love them...just sticking up for your opinion LOL.

Get EVERY piece of paper you can from your doctor - meaning ALL test results. You won't believe HOW valuable this will be to you in later days. All the bloodwork etc.

I'm glad to meet you - if I can EVER be of help you just ask. I finished tx about 4 weeks ago and am finally getting some energy back so I'd totally be willing to help in any way I can.

kit - you are on tx - you are on the only treatment as of yet that is effective against hepatitis C.  We are all hoping that there may be some options on different meds in the future, but right now interferon and ribavirin are it!
