5wks post tx, got sick!!

My tx finished 5 wks ago give or take a couple days. Last Sta. I started getting dizzy. It seems now I probably have ear infection. Yesterday I started throwing up. It was so violent, I broke blood vessels in my eye....Hah. I cant hardly hear either. My question is I thought I would have my labs done tomorrow while I am at the Dr's office. Will the over the counter cold meds I took affect my liver enzyme counts, hence scarring me to death? I could wait a few more days as my Doc wants the labs by the end of the month.

Well my labs all came back well within the normal range!! HGB 15.4, liver panel was on the low side of normal as well. I still have plugged up ears bad. They ring so loud I cant hear the TV....LOL. My wife is sick of yelling at me. I'm ready for this to be gone. But a little longer and maybe she wont ever yell at me again!!
VL test at the end of the month, praying for UND again.

I got REALLY dizzy and nauseous the last time I went off tx. (after 88 wks)  It was directly related to my going off the anti-depressants at the same time.  dahhh....I went back on anti-depressants and tapered off slowly over a months time and all was well. I hope that is all it is with you???? Take care.  Beyondmwd

Dizzy and vomiting?  Have you had a cold recently that would have progressed into an ear infection?  If not, could it be vertigo?  I would probably go to the doctor and have it checked out, because you don't want to take pain relievers or antibiotics if they aren't going to help.  If it is vertigo, your doctor may suggest Meclazine, which is an over the counter medication that helps with dizziness.  If you have an anti nausea medication at home that you've used before with treatment, that might help as well.  But if it were me, I would get it checked out.

Examples of some of the common medications with potential liver toxicity include:

Pain relief medications such as:
aspirin,
acetaminophen (Tylenol),
ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin),
naproxen (Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Aleve),
diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, Voltaren-XR), and
phenylbutazone (Butazolidine)
Anti-seizure medications such as:
phenytoin (Dilantin),
valproic acid (Depakote, Depakote ER, Depakene, Depacon),
carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Equertro), and
phenobarbital

Antibiotics such as:
tetracyclines, [for example, tetracycline (Achromycin)]
sulfonamides,
isoniazid (INH) (Nydrazid, Laniazid)
sulfamethoxazole (Gantanol),
trimethoprim (Trimpex; Proloprim, Primsol)
nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin; Furadantin; Macrobid),
fluconazole (Diflucan ) and some other anti-fungals, etc.

Cholesterol lowering drugs such as statins:
lovastatin (Mevacor, Altocor),
pravastatin (Pravachol),
atorvastatin (Lipitor),
fluvastatin (Lescol),
rosuvastatin (Crestor),
simvastatin (Zocor), and
Niacin

Cardiovascular drugs such as:
(Cordarone),
hydralazine (Apresoline)
quinidine (Quinaglute, Quinidex), etc.

Other drugs
Antidepressant drugs of the tricyclic type
With drug-induced liver enzyme abnormalities, the enzymes usually normalize weeks to months after stopping the medications.

slideman, unless you see something here, I think you are okay to get your labs run.  However if the liver enzymes are high, don't panic.  I hope you get to feeling better soon.

No you better get to the Dr. and get some antibiotics. I went to late they gave me antibiotics but come to find out I had pneumonia in my right lung. Had to start new antibiotics, two weeks with a high fever, coughing so hard I threw up. I ask my liver doctor and he said it was fine what the other doctor was giving me for my pneumonia. But don't let it get worse cause we have no immune system and man when we get sick it's bad.  God bless I hope yours does not get as bad as mine did. And I was still on all my treatment. No fun.

Gads that sounds familiar! I am a few weeks ahead of you but I had the in and out ear thing too. I rode it out but it went on for weeks. I continued with my antihistimines and a decongestant and it finally stopped. I am about 7 weeks out and got really sick last night with feeling really hot and cold at the same time and being extremely nauseous. I had montezuma's revenge big time and got better and better then gradually improved throughout the day. I am fine now. Seems like finishing tx is another roller coaster. On the upside, I felt really great for a few weeks! Now hoping to move on to more of that and hoping the same for you! Good luck,
G

Don't know if labs would be affected , but would doubt it. Take a antihistimine and spray nose really good and it should drain soon or if you still have it after 10 days get a z pak. Thats if it is an ear ache. I finished tx about 3 wks ago and had an earache for two wekks prior to finishing. Took a z pak after 2 wks and the ear drained. Thought that was done , then a week later it came back, but not quite with the same pressure in ear.Figured it would go away, but it hasn't because its not an earache anymore its a swollen parotoid gland on the side of ear, swelling the ear closed.Haven't seen a dr. about it because frankly I'm sick and tired of them.If that is what it is you can get relief by heat and I've lately been able to make it ease up by lightly massaging or stimulating the area and the swelling goes down after doing that for about 15 minutes.Good luck its tough wanting to feel better after tx and not quite being able to.
