HCV risk from fist fight

I dont hnow if this is question for thid forum.....Plese help me I am wooried of posibility of contracting hepatitis. Here is the case: During karate sparing I hit another karete student in the lip and caused him a small bleeding. I noticed small amount of blood on my hand but I did not notice any cut or wound. In a minute I cleaned my hand with soap and inspected the skin and I think the skin was intact (also use magnifiig glass). Is there any posibility that i could contract Hepatitis from this incident?? I am worried of hepatitis since I had false positive ELISA (PCR and another elisa negative) in the past. That is why I dont want to go for another testing post this "exposure" because i don´t want to risk another false positive result. I know that blood on intact skin is not risky, but I am litle woried if some wery small wound that might be a result of blow in the opponents teeths whitch whitch I haven´t seen on my hand might put me in risk. I might be a paranoid.

Thank you wery much for any help.

Sory of my english, I am from Europe.

I think it's far less certain checking several days after.  The fact that you immediately checked following the hit and saw no breaks makes it almost certain that nothing could has passed.  Nothing is ever absolutely certain, but this seems very, very unlikely.

There are times people get checked following some transmission threat and find out not only that they have HCV but that they probably had it before.

If you are going to continue in martial arts it might not be a bad thing to make sure your status.  A riba antigen test would confirm, or better confirm the presence of antibodies.  You can talk with your doctor about whether another is needed.

Continued contact and risk of exposure to blood will mean continued risk of exposure; not only to HCV but other blood borne diseases.  It's one reason I have decided that it would be irresponsible for me to engage in the martial arts although I have some interest, probably as much for exercise as much as anything.

Take care and good luck,
Willy

yes mate u r safe,u had no cuts u r safe, and dont be silly...u r welcome at this forum anytime,we all have paranoid thoughts sometimes and its normal to need reasurance sometimes IMO,even if we know we r probly ok we still like to get others oppinions.
basically though u r pretty safe from catchin hep c unless u use needles ya 99% safe, but we should never share anything like razors etc to cos there is small chance there too but im sure u know all that.
be safe,u will be ok,get tested to ease your mind.

Sorry, I don't think it is a dumb question.  I have pondered doing marital arts but have held back for the same reason/ issue.

It was not a dumb question and in spite of writing in a foreign language you were able to communicate well enough; no apology needed.

I'm sorry that I didn't read your question more carefully; I saw the part about blood on your hand and missed the part about no broken skin on you hand.

Their blood would have to get into your blood.  They would also have to be infected; chances are they are not.

best,
Willy

It is impossible unless the person you hit is positive for something.  Frankly, it could be HCV, HIV, lyme disease etc, to the best of my knowledge.

I am not saying that it is likely, particularly if it was one split second glancing hit.  I am saying that it could be possible since there was blood from each person at very close proximity.

First I heard of something of this sort was truckers that went to gay bars and punched out gay people...... and ended up with HIV since one of the parties was infected.  I assume that was multiple hits and lots of blood.  All I can say is that transmission could be within the realm of possibility (obviously, they would have to be positive though.... otherwise impossible......)

You can wait for the window period and then get a PCR or Riba antigen test.  On the remote chance of infection the odds of treating are much better while in the very early stages of infection.

best,
Willy

"No, karate chops rarely cause hepC transmission".

Now you're going to tell me that pork chops don't either...

Look at the Brightside. If you did test positive you can always go back and punch him again.

The HCV cannot pass tru unbroken skin, the virus lives inside the  blood cell and the blood cell cannot penetrate the skin, pores are too small.

No, karate chops rarely cause hepC transmission.  I took kickboxing for years and am confident I never infected anyone, ever.   You have been tested before and seem to know enough about the disease to realize that you may have gotten it from old dental work or operations or manicures or IVDU but these days shooting drugs is really one of the only ways you can contract it.

Even tranfusions are just about 100% safe.

My husband fell in our garage and cut an artery on a saw and I had to wrap towels around around it to stop the bleeding and I had blood all over my hands ,arms and I did not become infected. Not to say its not possible but not probable. You can't live your life being afaid of doing things you like to do or the disease also hurts the people without the virus. Hope that helps, Ruth

You seem to know that HCV is transmitted via blood-to-blood contact.  If you are confident that your blood didn't contact your sparring partner's blood, then you should be OK.

The only way to be completely sure is to do a PCR, which you also seem to already know.
