Are you a professional athlete?  Are you involved in extreme excercise...... if so you may.  If you are not you likely do not need additional supplements like Gatorade.  A little is fine but as mentioned there is plenty of sugar in it and other sports drinks.

Are there exceptions to this?  I'd guess so.  Have you suffered from losing fluids from vomiting or the runs?  Excessive sweating, urination or night sweats?  These might be reasons that your electrolytes could be low and sports drinks merited.

I believe that they spend so much money trying to convince us that we need their product.  In reality it probably isn't really that important that we take them.  It may be more important that we don't OVER-take them.

See also the thread on over drinking water; too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

best,
willy

Honestly I do agree with Beamer.  I think it's a good idea to put nutrients back IN instead of just washing them OUT. Personally I don't want to wash all my meds out I want them to work! hahahhahahahaha ;)

My doc said it's not just water that we "count" as drinking but all the fluids we drink a day. That I didn't have to drink JUST water (cause it was making me nuts trying to drink that much).

Gatorade is good for your electrolytes and junk so it won't hurt you.

As long as we try and stay hydrated...I personally don't think it matters if you do water and gatorade - at least that is what my doctor said.

Sometimes on tx, due to lack of an appetite, you can almost find yourself on a liquid diet.  Gatorade, while a pretty good confort tx drink, is not as good as water.  A while back my daughter diluted a cup of gatoade with an equal amount of water - it was ok, and less sugar.

haven't had blood sugar issues before, i just used to drink a lot of diet dr pepper, but since it has caffiene, i've cut way down to 1 or 2 a day. maybe that's why the headache is bad. thanks everyone.

Do you like Gatorade?
Desrt is right sugar is sugar and I alomost got into trouble with blood sugar because of all the watered down juice, eggnog and ice cream I consumed. Moderation is the key I'm sure.

The Be In Charge nurse said you need more than just water. So I have apple juice or orange juice. Water has very little electrolytes and we need them. Everything in moderation, except water, drink lots.

I used to supplement my gallon of water/day with a small Gatorade, but remember if you've got blood sugar issues - sugar is sugar.
