I am very hopeful that you will have kicked the disease. I was considering dropping out at 24 weeks of combo therapy, as I was RVR, and had low viral load at the start (after the mono-therapy). But the consensus reached, was that as I had failed on monotherapy, it was not worth the risk with my 1A. I'll never know if I should have dropped out earlier or not, if I had not had the monotherapy failure first, I probably would have stopped around 24 weeks.
It will be interesting to see how we both turn out.
There you are!! I'd checked your journal too, no notes.
First, glad your going off, really. It's been really hard on you. I think you gave a dam good fight and enough time...9 transfusions later!
I also gained weight on tx! Only a few lbs. tho, thankfully. And they'd said to gain 10-15 before starting tx!! Glad I didn't. We are also 'bedridden', no exercise, think that's why I gained. All good tho, gained in good places too :)
It has taken over 7 weeks for me to start feeling better, just getting some energy back, brain fog going, etc. Hoping your one of the ones that feel better fast.
Glad to 'hear' from you, hoping a fast recovery and of the heart too (other things).

Been Wondering how you were going.
I think stopping at 24 weeks is the right thing. You odds are pretty good Ya No.
You might be glad you took the Riba in about 6 months time.

phew, well glad we can breathe a sigh of relief for you...it's been r. toads wild ride hasn't it... I still remember the exploding endoscope.....that's one time medicine paid for it's mistakes!!
Anyway, glad to hear you are doing better....and glad you had some support when Jr. left. Be well.

Long time no post! Hope everything goes right.
Yeah well, I'm out. I am going off of treatment. I have what, six or seven months in on full treatment and I feel comfortable that I have had ENOUGH.
Due to spending so much time in the hospital, I have two full bottles of riba if anyone is paying for treatment out of pocket.
The doc at UAB thought maybe I should do a hepatic function panel and one last viral load and then quit in two weeks. I said, yeah, uh huh, and smiled and took my labform and thought to myself NO WAY!
First, I've been pullingr virals just at random thoughout tx. All negative. The last one was three or four weeks ago.
And my poor grandmother, she has been having to do all of my transport since my son moved, she needs to get back to her busy social schedule. And I need to lose the weight I've gained, that's right, GAINED, on treatment. When I'm very anemic, I'm extremely hungry. So now I can get back to normal.
After a fashion anyway. I think its going to take me a little while to get my strength back.
Good to have you back and well...Leah
Yes zazza - my understanding, at least in Canada, per my doctor, is that the idea of treating acutes without Riba is no longer followed, or recommended. This matches my experience of treating with mono first (only 12 weeks I did - as I did not respond sufficiently at that time). I responded to combo, but not mono, and feel the mono really was a waste of effort that set me back.
Hope it works out well Alagirl - I think by treating early, I hope we have done what a lot of people wish they could have done, nip this in the bud before it settles in.
good to see you back and doing ok...lots of us have been wondering how you were......billy
Ala...miss you by the way
Gish says that the monotherapy is antiquated.
About skipping the riba, I would talk to Moahunter. As an acute he tx'ed for 24 weeks (?) without the riba, relapsed, then had to do another 48 weeks with both peg and riba. I'm pretty sure he would have preferred to do it including riba first time around. So don't feel bad about those transfusions.
Ooooh So much good luck sent your way!
Also - good to see you!
Hugs,
Meki
Ps. I think ALL doctors are a bit quacky personality wise... LOL!
