I agree with Bill, I have never heard of advanced liver disease itself affecting the sense of taste. I have decompensated cirrhosis myself and have many friends with cirrhosis or have received liver transplants so they were extremely ill, but they never had loss of taste issues.

But...Some meds can cause a loss of taste, beta blockers can cause a loss of taste in a small minority of people. Are you taking a beta blocker to manage portal hypertension? Such as Nadolol. The are many beta blockers available so you could have your doctor switch it for another one.
Nausea and loss of appetite are common symptoms of advanced cirrhosis.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis; what is your doctor doing to help manage the cirrhosis; have you been offered treatment for the Hep C (HCV)? I don’t know offhand of a connection between altered taste and cirrhosis; perhaps others will offer their thoughts.

Welcome to the discussion group-
