how do you know how long you have had hep c?
Less than 1 yr.
Can you tell us if you have been diagnosed with hep c and if you have any plans to treat?
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I got it. Still dont know. I have only recently quit caring. I wish I had quit caring earlier. ( I say that about a lot of things) I Had a lot of risk factors like nygirl said, ,,,
I didn't contact it via a transfusion as far as I know (I did have two in 1988 which was before blood testing) but I was hardly a saint when I was young and most likely contracted it another way. My husband had it so it could have been that. I've had many medical procedures and innoculations so it could have been that or it could have been something as simple as when I got my ears pierced when I was a kid or from a dentist.........
i'll never know for certain and long since ceased caring - it doesn't matter the important thing is that you find out you have it so you can treat it.
I too contracted Hep C through a blood transfusion in 1978. Back then the blood was not tested for Hepatitis, and unfortunately, it was possible for anyone to contract it before 1992. It was during that year, that I found out I had it, (after donating blood) so it was still not clear, and not much was known yet.
There are many choices as far as treatment, and many ongoing studies that you can look into.
Best of luck
Do you already know genotype and viral load?
I think you have to go back over your personal history and put it together with information about the virus and its migration. You may be able to get more information if you know what genotype you are for example. I spent some years on a Pacific Island in the 70s and may have picked it up there if they used non sterile needles for blood draws etc. I could have gotten it in SF when I experimented with a drug injection once. That is all it takes. You may never know for sure but you can develop some real good hypotheses about it.
1979 blood transfusion-no other source in my personal background
Very few people know for certain. Even some people who think that it may have been transmitted in one manner may be surprised to find it was something else. Probably the only people who know for certain are acute patients who had a known risk of transmission and had medical testing and documentation at the time.
did you test positive for hcv, for me I related it to at risk behavior in my past, some with blood transfusions things like that where there was blood to blood contact, sex maybe but it is a very low percentage
