so much fat?

I am taking in around a 100 grams of fat with the total meds, do you really need to take in 20 grams with the Riba. At this rate I am going to gain a alot of weight. Like the last time I am not vomiting or having loose stools, not that I am complaining, I am already over weight, I know how vain, I broke my back 5 years ago and put on 30 pounds, and have been trying to get it off, any suggestions on good fat that I might not gain so much weight thanks Vanity

rice milk and rice chex...gluten is a problem for loads of people...it can take quite a while after stopping gluten to realize or feel a difference...thats why a lot of folks don't hang in there on their gluten fee diets...i also think we are so use to large intakes of gluten that even if we cut back a lot and don't become fanatics its fine...i was reading about fat a little...i thought it was interesting that avocado fat cuts your cholesterol down not up....but then i wonder if this kind of fat is as good as other fats to take in during tx...who knows chorine was nasty to get in my eyes during tx...i had bone spurs on c5 and 6 in 82...got a mila gram (sp) they tipped me back and forth a bunch of times after injecting dye in my spine...on the tv you could watch the dye going up my spine into the back of my head...and the doc said i had bone spurs ..showed me...told me i could only walk for exercise..that my neck was like a 70 year old man with bad arthritis ...no more lifting or construction work...my neck was very painful...after that....my wife who was very well read said she read she read a arthritis diet..it was basically no sugar ...no bread....i think no carbos...not sure...anyway i dropped down to 145...thats skinny for me...and in 3 months felt much better...i did that diet for 6 months and that was it...no more...interesting how diet...willpower  positive thinking can do so much...... easy to see how faith healers thousands of years ago could cure folks that believed in them....billy

I do walk on a treadmill 7 days aweek for half an hour 200 calories, The tx fried my thyroid last time around and I do believe that is some of the problem, started walking 6 months ago, before I broke my back I was big aerobic and weight lifting person, after I started on the treadmill, by the way kills my back I have osteo-pina, would not consider me for surgery, I gained weight, I know I know muscle weighs more than fat , also I have a Gluten problem now, pretty much a train wreck LOL. Thanks for your insight it is truely appreciated Stalion

i ate fat throughout tx...and did gain weight...i just wouldn't take a chance on that one...i always ate my incivek on time and before taking it would eat fat...ice cream at first and then anything with butter...i was easy for me to put lots of butter on blueberry pancakes...french bread...even when just on the riba/interferon i ate fat.....before tx i thought i would be eating a real healthy diet...even trying to smoke some pot to help ... i couldn't take the smell of pot after the first two weeks and was so drugged i just couldn't put any other drugs in my system...but looking back i think i ate the right foods for the tx...and getting the weight down......thats easy...its mostly just exercise and not eating anything after dinner..i found if i walk pretty fast for a few miles most nights after dinner within three weeks the weight starts coming off....once it starts coming off within a few months i'm happy with my weight...so maybe wait a couple months post tx to lose weight...take it easy while on tx....good luck.....billy

Prior relapser = 86% chance of SVR with triple tx with Incivek.  Hang in there!

Just be sure that you're taking your meds at the right time and taking your Incivek with the 20 grams of fat.  Don't skip any doses.
Try not to be late with any doses, but if you are late, follow the protocol for what to do with late doses.
Your chances are very good for clearing Hep C with triple tx.
As hrsepwrguy said, you do not have to be UND at week 12 to continue.  You have to be under 1000 at week 12 and you have to be UND at week 24 to continue.

Incivek protocol states you must be under 1000 IU/ml at wk 12 to continue, you must be UND at wk 24 to continue

Treatment Futility Rules: All Patients
HCV-RNA  Week 4 or Week 12: Greater than 1000 IU/mL Discontinue INCIVEK and peginterferon alfa and ribavirin (INCIVEK treatment complete at 12 weeks)
Week 24: Detectable Discontinue peginterferon alfa and ribavirin

thank you for the words of encouragement , my Gastro doctor left me on the 48 weeks last round when I was not completely UND at 12 weeks, People on here told me I probably would not achieve SVR and at 6 months it was back , unfortunately I am using the same  doctor could not find one within  200 miles, the only good thing is the criteria for triple is complete UND at 12 weeks. As toby mentioned, I've seen several others combine the time of the Inc and Riba.  But always best to confirm with your doc to make sure.

Try not to worry so much about being sensitive enough for treatment, since there's been so many with very good early results with both of the PI's.  I guess as the 6 months PCRs come back we'll see the SVRs coming in also.  Best of luck to you this round.

I like your idea toby47 doubling up meds are you sure that is ok ,I could live with that! I am going to try, I am cocerned because the last tx I was not sick at all, except the bad rash, and shortness of breath, I am worried I may be one of the people not senitive enough to treatment, guess I will have to wait and see. Thanks to all for your responses Stalion

I wouldn't worry about your weight, you'll find that the longer you go the less your going to want to eat. Probably has to do also with the fact your drinking a gallon of water a day.I found that the best way to take my Meds was to double them up. my schedule was 7am - inc. & riba, 3:30 pm- inc & riba, 11pm --Inc. Three Scheduled pill times was about all I could handle.I lost 25 lbs on tx and was hating all food by the end of tx. Now that I'm done a month already gained back 5 lbs.Good Luck

I have read that fat helps with ribs too, but no, you do not need to take fat with ribs. U do need to take 20 g of fat 3x per day no more than 30 min prior to each dose of incivek.

Hope you are taking 20 grams of fat with each dose of Incivik if you are on
the triple medications.  The medication is more than 200% more effective when
taken with fat.

The package insert simply says take with food,

How should I take COPEGUS?

• Take COPEGUS exactly as your healthcare provider tells you. Your healthcare provider will tell you how much COPEGUS to take and when to take it. For children 5 years of age and older your healthcare provider
will prescribe the dose of COPEGUS based on weight.
• Take COPEGUS with food.
• If you miss a dose of COPEGUS, take the missed dose as soon as possible during the same day. Do not double the next dose. If you have questions about what to do, call your healthcare provider.
• If you take too much COPEGUS, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center right away, or go the nearest hospital emergency room right away.
• Your healthcare provider should do blood tests before you start treatment with COPEGUS, at weeks 2 and 4 of treatment, and then as needed to see how well you are tolerating treatment and to check for side effects.
Your healthcare provider may change your dose of COPEGUS based on blood test results or side effects you may have.
• If you have heart problems, your healthcare provider should check your heart by doing an electrocardiogram before you start treatment with COPEGUS, and if needed during treatment.
