sinus problems since starting treatment

by daniel2u, Aug 05, 2008 12:16AM
Has anyone noticed sinus problems since starting treatment?  My nasal passages to seem to be opened all the way and I always seem to have a rattle.  It drives me nuts some times.

Yes, I have it since started treatement 6 months ago, during last 2 months it worsen, still investigate it with the docs, don't know what to do, would be pleased if anyone tell us about his experienve with this problem. I read somewhere that reduction of Ribavirin dose would help but I assume that might be last option.

Since the beginning of tx I'm always having to clear my throat, very phlemy all the time.
Yes my sinuses are messed up, always blowing my nose and at night it hurts my nose when i breath in. Very annoying and I get stuffy while laying down.

I noticed immediately that my sinuses were dryed out.  I've been using Ocean Saline Solution and a humidifier.

I had dry blood clots in my nose, i know its disgusting.  I also have phlegm that at times chokes me because i cant cough it up.

Izzy for the dryness, ocean is great if your start to get scabby stuff use neosporen when you go to sleep it keeps your nose moist so you dont wake up all dry.

I started treatment with some sinus issues that probably would have cleared up within a month had I not treated. They lasted through 54 weeks of treatment and about a month beyond. Then they pretty much went away. It seemed with me that treatment amplified any ailment around 50 times. Spent at least half the time on antibiotics for one thing or another. Had bad GERD (reflux) most of the time, etc, etc.

Thanks for the tip.  I can see it coming to that.  I figured out the "hangover" headache I was waking up with was from drying out during the night.  Like sinus squeeze.  The humidifier seems to help that.

I got a sinus infection immediately after starting treatment.  Antibiotics cleared it up but my sinuses have been irritated the whole time.  Took my last meds today so I'm hoping they will clear up.  Irrigating them with saline solution helps a lot.  Good luck.

I have a product called Ponaris...it's a nasal emollient. It's an oil based nose drop that relieves many sinus issues from dry inflamed nasal passages to congestion due to colds. It is very soothing for irritation...I was told by my ENT Dr to get this after surgery a few years ago and I still use it.

Thanks for the post.  I was worried that it might be something more serious like pollups or that I might need to see an ENT man.  Maybe in a year this sinus **** might be behind me.

It drives me nuts that my sinus plug up.  It's like I cannot get enough air and it is claustrophobic and panic that I get some times.  Particularly when I try to sleep at night.  I am suppose to use trazadone to help me sleep but it seems to aggravate the sinus condition even more.
If anyone one has any advice please give me it ASAP.

Yes, definitely see an ENT who can evaluate how serious the problem is and treat appropriately before it gets worse.

I had sinus, ear, and cough problems since about week 3-4.
Still have it, never went to a ENT about it but I may have to now.
I've been off tx about 2 weeks and I guess I thought it would just go away
the same way it came.  The only thing I found that helped (w/o taking more meds)
was a steamy shower.  It loosened the phlem in my chest and sinuses.
My left ear still sounds like I have some "webbing" in it.
I did have all my docs look at it during tx and they said it's not
an infection per se.
Hope you feel better...

I'm not saying to avoid a doc but I used a neddie pot.  It is this little genie looking thing with a spout.  Mix warm water with some salt, bend over the sink with the spout in one nostril in your nose and let the water run throuh the sinuses and come out the other nostril.  Sounds gross but it clears out any irritants in the sinuses.  It worked for me.
