If you are genotype 2 or 3 you can treat for 24 weeks. If you are genotype 1 it is recommended that you treat for 48 weeks.

As Hector said, there is a lot to read about different Geno types, scarring fibrosis, are you a relapser?..non responder.  Lot of stuff to read, I think if  you look up Hectors Posts or WillB's there is a lot of useful information, it takes time to read it all it is well worth the time.  There are many others on here who know a lot but can't name them all "brain fog"
One thing, none of it is easy
Good luck

There is no one yet treating clinically that has SVR"d with geno type 1 in 24 weeks with the new medications,as they have only been prescribed for approx 5 months, however in trials for both DAA"s (Victrelis &Incivek)  patients with Geno type 1 overall patients with F3 -F4  had better results doing 48 weeks vs. 24 weeks and for both drugs the recommended protocol  for chirrotics is 48 weeks

Good luck..

Forgot to mention....as per the prescribing labeling I linked above and as Dee has mentioned a lot depends on whether you are  new to treatment  or  treatment experinced      as well as your early response that  was shown in trials to be most effective, however again...all chirrotics are recommended to do 48 weeks.

I am und after two weeks off tx.
I am geno 1. Treated 8 yeas ago twice with interferon and riv.
Und after 2 week on this tx with incevik.
My dr. thought about 48 weeks of tx and decided i did not need 48 weeks.

I had stage 3 fibrosis 8 years ago.
Hopefully, I stay und.
My cbc blood count is still mostly Low though.

Hi ellenc670,

From what I've read on this forum, some doctors are treating both f3 and f4 patients for 48 weeks.  Much depends on how you responded with your first two treatments as well as how much your liver damage has progressed in the last 8 years.

Thank you to willbb for this information.  These results can be found on the fda.gov page listed below.

http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ByAudience/ForPatientAdvocates/ucm256328.htm

Treatment Outcome All T12/PR48a
SVR rate
Prior relapsers 86%
Prior partial responders 59%
Prior null responders 32%

In my husband's case, he progressed from between f1 and f2 in 2007 to f4 in 2010.

Oh, I see from some of your other posts that you are a prior relapser, so your chances for SVR with triple with Inc. are very good (86%).  My concern would be if you are still f3 or if you have progressed to f4, but it also sounds as though you've already finished your 24 weeks of treatment a week or so ago, so continuing for the additional 24 weeks is not an option anyway.  Keep us posted.  Let us know if you SVR.  Also, let us know if you've had another biopsy more recently than 8 years ago and what the results were.
