Recently Diagnosed

Hi, everyone.
I'm 22 and less than three weeks ago I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C genotype 2. I'm not sure where I contracted it from. I've never used needles in the past nor have I come into contact with anyone's blood (as far as I know). Nor does my mother have it. It was really scary to me, not knowing where it's come from. I had symptoms come and go but didn't really think anything about it and then I finally got a doctor for unrelated reasons and described some of the symptoms and she decided to run blood tests and it came back with this. ),: Since that test, my fiancee,  also got tested he came back negative and decided to end our relationship for the time being so I can go off on my own and see if I can get treated (he claims it's unlikely) (here's my first question) is this normal? When in a relationship and finding out anout hepatitis c do relationships end? Is that kind of something to be expected? Anyways, I was forced to quit my job and leave my doctor and any chance of immediate treatment to move halfway across the country back to my mother's home. So now I'm waiting on my medical coverage here to get sorted so I can find a new doctor and go through all of this all over again. It's insane to me to have life totally normal one day and the next, totally ripped away and falling apart. I apologize for my ramblings.  My main question is, who is out there has this type? What are the treatments like? Have you been cured? How likely is it? At this point, I have NOBODY to talk to about this and finally broke down and decided to come here where people know about the virus and the treatments.  I appreciate your time if you've actually read my ramblings. Thank you, again.

Hi Randi
I also have genotype 2.  If your going to have Hep C it is the easiest genotype to cure and also the least aggressive.  Personally I am now
cured after taking 2 different medications for 12 weeks.  They are called
Sovaldi and Ribavirin.  The most common side effect is fatigue.
You don't need to inject yourself or anything worrisome to do, just take
the meds daily for 12 weeks and then your cured.   This genotype has
up to a 95% cure rate so you can be very optomistic that this is all you
need to do.  Even tho you have the virus it takes decades for it to do any
damage to your liver and your young so you will be OK.
Please keep us posted when you find out about starting treatment.  We can
help you if you have questions along the way.
Good thing the guy is gone.  Men always show there true colors eventually
and better you find out now instead of later.
Take care and please don't worry.   You will be cured soon.

Hi Miss......welcome to your new virtual home away from homes! I just would like to add that the fellow Heppers on this forum are the best group of people I have ever talked to. They are quick to help, kind and compassionate and are always willing to share RELIABLE information with anyone who needs guidance. Never feel alone we will walk with you thru your journey to beating this. Stronger more targeted treatments, more tolerable meds, this is a an opportune time to treat as everyone above has said. I am so sorry about your relationship, pretty much sux...greater things to come! Too much espresso, sorry :-0
Be well and stay strong
Peace

Hope:  Congratulations. on your SVR!!!! how wonderful.  Now step out onto that Dias and accept your Dragon Slayer Supreme Insignia!  You earned it!  So happy for you.  Time for the BIG Happy Dance....whoo whoo!!

randi:  They have said it all above.  I just wanted to say welcome to the Forum.  You have a lot of information, knowledge, caring and support right here.  ALL of us understand because we have been there or are caregivers of those who have.

I am sorry you gave up your job and life to move home UNLESS THAT WAS YOU CHOICE.  There is no reason you could not have worked full time and treated -- especially at your age - the younger you are, the less side effects, from what I have read.

Having said that, it is probably best that you are out of the sphere of that man who definitely showed his true colors - you don't need that kind of person in your life, of all people you should be able to count on during hard times your partner, fiancee, spouse should be #1.  You may not see it yet, but you are well out of that relationship. - here I go, preaching again.  Sorry.

When you settle down, get your Ins and a good Hepatologist, you will be fine.  Treatment, as others have already told you, is available, doable and short - probably, in your case 12 weeks.  THEN, you can just get on with your life.  Don't ever feel like ou have to be ashamed of or apologetic for having hepc -- you could have gotten it from a borrowed razor, or toothbrush, from a dentist whose autoclave wasn't working right, from a tatoo, from an ear piercing --- and on and own.  You get my drift.  Some of us know where we got the dragon (in my case, and may others, from blood transfusions before they tested blood for hepc); many of us never know.  Where it came from is not important now that you have it.  Look forward, not back, to how to treat it etc.

One last note:  once you see yor Dr and get the prescription, IF our insurance refuses to provide the meds, there are organizations which will help you, including the companies who make the meds.  Many of us did /do not even have a co-pay, so don't start stressing about that.

Again, welcome to the Forum.  Gird yourself for this upcoming battle, then go forth and slay the Dragon!!

Keep us informed, and never hesitate to ask questions, etc.  We are all here for you!!

Don't despair. I too had genotype 2 and was treated with Sovaldi and ribavirin for 12 weeks. The treatment was not as easy as I expected, but most people, I hear, tolerate it very well. My viral load just before the treatment was 7,400,000 and became undetected at 4 weeks of treatment. Today I got the news that I was cured: the last viral load test, 12 weeks EOT, is undetected.

..as for that guy, be glad you got rid of him now. Imagine you invested years and years into him and then.. at the sight of the first real difficulty, just when it matters most, he betrays you.. You're young and strong, the whole life is ahead of you. You will be cured in a matter of months. ..and you had a really valuable life lesson as far as people go.. Life is good :)

Viral loads can go up and down daily.   What your viral load is doesn't determin the condition of your liver.  You can have a low viral load and have cirrhosis and a high viral load and have little to no damage to your liver.

Take a deep breath and don't stress.   There will be lots of assistance to get you going.   Come here often and read what other do and feel.  You will get through this. ; )

It' my understanding the GT 2's are using Solvadi/riba and getting cured.

Sorry for the breakup. As far as I know most people stick together through this trauma. My partner of 25 years does not have it. I've had if for at least 35 years. If your partner bailed on you just when you needed them most then just move on. Don't look back. No one needs anyone who will bail on them.

Good luck getting a new doctor, Ins and all your labs.

Unfortunately this virus is now attacking the youth as it has skipped a generation or two. Tattoos and piercings are a biggie. Also, with the heroin epidemic that exists now.

Yes, I was tested for the antibodies and that came back positive so they went back and tested again and my viral load is at 1497386 IU/ml.  Genotype 2 subtype 2b. I've been trying to do as much research as I can about the treatments and what I need to be doing to prepare my body for the treatments. I'm a stress freak and I'm trying so so very hard to not over stress myself. I'm just upset that basically the moment that I was able to get to see my doctor and she was ready to get the ball rolling, I had to walk as a from everything. So now I wait and just keep researching and preparing. Any advice is truly appreciated.

Wow. He ended the relationship. Wow. I am so sorry. There are some on here who can chime in on their long term relationships and how this is not the norm. In fact, I know folks who have started relationships where one partner had hep c an the other did not.

As for your situation. I have/had Hep C, genotype 2 since 1983. I ended a three month treatment of Sovaldi/Ribavirin (oral pills) August 15th. I have been undetected at end of treatment and one month post. If I remain undetected at my Nov. 20th blood draw, I will be considered cured. Your boyfriend ended a relationship prematurely and is wrong. I was treatement naive and the treatment was completely tolerable and I worked full time and worked out throughout treatment.

Get settled, find a hepatologist and find out your options (you do have options-very good options). Your world has not collapsed...you have simply taken a detour in your life...the main road is up ahead. I second dontworry's first line of action...educate yourself (see hepc.com and other resources sites). Good Luck. Jo

Did your doctor tell you what your viral load is?  Because if you don't have a viral load.....you don't actually have Hepatitis C.  25% test positive for Hep C antibodies and don't have hep c.  This is confusing and it's very important you confirm if you have a viral load or not.  What testing positive for Hep C antibodies only means at one time you were exposed but cleared hep c on your own.

Let us know the results of you viral load

Hi and welcome to the forum.  Lots of people don't know where they got Hepatitis C.  I'm sorry about the ending of your relationship.  Is unfortunate that so many people are miss informed about Hepatitis C.  What this does is cause fear in people.  So you need to really educate yourself about Hep C.
I have been cured of Hepatitis C as so many others.  The treatment is getting better and easier everyday.   Go to "HepC.com" and find a doctor, get a plan and find direction to current and up coming treatment.  This will help you.
Also,  this is a great place to get questions answered and get the much needed support to work through all this.   You can do this.

Best to you
