vicodin during tx

by ladybuglola, Jul 22, 2008 10:36AM
Does anyone experience this.  I've taken vicodin 2x's since starting tx, and everytime I do within 2 days afterward I become very ill.  eg: Extremely bad headache and nauseau.  Its so bad I've missed 2 days of work both times, last nite the headaches got so bad all i could do was cry because I felt so helpless.
I was wondering because vicodin taxes the liver so much  if thats whats causing me to get so sick.
I know for sure no more vic for me.

I take hydracodone 10/325 everyday, it has been a god send on tx as I have arthralgia
myalagia on top of arthritis. what you are describing sounds like the same kind of thing I ahve suffered from txs

Yeah I thought about that. maybe its just coinsidence that I get so sick after taking vic's, Maybe its just sx from tx..... or not.  But because of this coincidence I've decided no more vic's  cause the sx too extreme.

its not the vicodin that is hard on the liver its the ibuprofen...

the symptoms you are describing are common side effects of vicodin and any narcotic, i think only taking it twice is not harmful but i guess it depends on how far advanced your liver problems are

why are you taking vicodin anyway?  if you are looking for something to help with the joint pain and other aches & pains from tx, try a little weed instead

Last time i tryed weed, which was years ago, i've always experienced high paranoia.
Usually I take motrin 800 works or tylenol, and only on the weekends when I take my shot do i need any pain relief.  i'm done with the vic's.
Thanks for the suggestion, I figure if I do try the weed, maybe I can sleep through it.

ya just on shot night ....be careful with ibuprofen...

fyi there are alot of people who cant take any kind of narcotic because of nausea problems, people with hep an without

Extremely bad headache and nauseau

Sounds like you are taking too much and experiencing a sort of 'overdose' of sorts which is hard to believe on such a mild narcotic but never the less on treatment perhaps it's just too much of the narcotic for your body.

If you are really uncomfortable try just taking a half of one that should do the trick.

LIke pjhep80 said I might be one of those people that cant tolerate any kind of narcotics,
Yes, exactly, the pain and nauseau is so extreme it feels like an o.d.  I'm on day 2 of this and I'm slowly feeling better now.
Thanks for all your comments, it sure helped me.

dang i tried to get vicodin but my PAC laughed at me.....jeez cant they help a brutha out lol

these are the meds I took during treatment:
nausea     "promeprazine" which is generic fenegrin works great but makes you sleepy

insomnia  ambien also makes you sleepy which it is supposed to:)_

depression, etc  PROZAC (good stuff...you can watch them bury your dad while you hum the munchkinland coroner song from Wizard of OZ)

ZANTAC for "GERD"

"ALEVE" for pain and discomfort

I'm only on my 3rd shot but I know the first couple days afterwards are the worse so it may be just the treatments.  I am on a form of morphine which I have been on for a couple years for some other problems that I have.  I was on Vicoden at one time but my doc took me off because of the acetametaphin (I know that's spelled wrong) and the affects that it has on the liver.  That was before I was even diagnosed with Hep C.  You may need to be on something that is mainly a pain reliever and has less of the acetametaphin in it.  Good luck.

well ppl's.  I really think this is just a bad wk for me.  One thing I didnt mention was on fri during shot I injected at 45deg angle like I'm supposed to, but when I went to pull the plunger back the needle moved up and puntured out of my skin, a little bit of the med squirted out and I bled a little.  I pushed the needle back in and continued to inject.  I was afraid this would cause a problem.
I think I just worry every wk; whats it going to be like this weekend.  I just never got this sick b4.  So my first instinct is to find a reason why, when all it could've been is the sx of interf and riba.
BUT...I'm still not going to take vic's anymore.  Too co-incidental.
