My ultrasound

Checking in with all you good people, after my disasterous Fobroscan 21,tomorrow My heptologist is sending me to have a liver ultrasound,I'm too anxious to find out what they see,two years ago I had one ond it did not show anything remarkable, but who knows, can't have anything at all by mouth in the morning till I have the ultra sound, not a drop boo hope too start my tereatment after on the 19th Nov,hope tomorrow gives them a green light,I had the chance to talk to a female aquaintance, who did a years treatment four months ago. It's good too talk to a peer in the flesh, and after some adversity, and her share of problems, she still is so happy she did the treatment and had no regrets,it help me to be more determined, and I hope handle better what is to be I'll let you people know what my ultra sound shows thanks for listening.

As Bigdaddy says, one can get self absorbed. I was always worrying about the pills or the shots or the deliveries, how yucky I was feeling. It's important to keep to the dosing schedule so tx is always on your mind. Any snafu made me irritable. And stress adds to physical discomfort.

I acknowledged my being self centered to my support people. I thanked them all the time for putting up with me. I know that the small amount of exercise i did, helped to get me out of my head.

Everybody is different. My best advice, is take one day at a time.

For me Hector, the worst part wasn't the boredom, it's when they say to take a deep breath and hold it and then forget to tell you to breath again :o)

They always turn up the sound on me when they check the blood flow to make sure it isn't going backwards or the wrong way - hepatofugal flow which I don't have.

I do mine every three months and I don't worry in between because whatever it is, it will be.

My 1st 3 tx's really messed with my head but I have since learned how selfish and self-centered and fear driven I was being and now know that the world doesn't revolve around me and I have learned tto let go of the craziness and I only had one incident with riba-rage (directed at my hepa and RN but luckily they are used to us on tx being difficult sometimes) this time around and I have since made my amends for it.

thanks hector as the sonagrapher said no test is 100% thats why there are so many Different tests the redeeming factor of this one, is ,I had a pretty extensive one done two years ago, wich gives them a good benchmark to observe this one I pray it's good news from my disasterous Fibroscan,I will
post what they will tell me,a bit suspicious as to how much they;ll say, they really want to treat me and last time interfuron stopped me.just about everyone that I know that has had treatment, and even the clinic nurse say I't really messes with your head, can you explain that to me HectorSF,I would greatly appreciate it thank you.

Some information about an abdominal ultrasound (sonogram).

It is a noninvasive diagnostic test using sound waves. The hardest thing about it is the boredom as you lay there. I would imagine that the majority of pregnant women have at least one ultrasound during their pregnancy. To view the progress of the pregnancy and baby's health.

An abdominal ultrasound (or sonogram) has a number of purposes in patients with liver disease. Ultrasound is less expensive than other tests, such as a CT scan or (MRI) scan and produces no radiation like a CT scan does. It main function is to view the architecture of the liver. The size, shape, and position of the liver. It can detect the consistency of the liver. So it can detect fatty liver, cysts or other growths. Ultrasound surveillance is commonly  used on a 6 months basis to detect any masses that could be liver cancer (HCC). People with cirrhosis caused by hep C have a higher risk of developing HCC than the general public and most other liver diseases. HCC is increasingly being found in these patients. The ultrasound can also "see" a nodular liver (vs a smooth surface of a non cirrhotic liver) that is characteristic of complete cirrhosis. It was also detect blood flow. So in a patient with cirrhosis it can detect portal hypertension. And since it is an abdominal ultrasound it can detect splenomegaly (enlarged spleen) that is characteristic of cirrhosis and portal hypertension. It can also detect inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis), or blocked bile ducts.

When you get the report please post it online so we can answer any questions you might have.

Good luck.
Hector

Hey it sounds as if you are spending the time between now and when you treat quite wisely. Talking to someone in person who treated and cleared is an encouraging experience. For so long I only ever knew faceless people on the Internet. Then I would go back to my normal life. It is like my Hepatitis was only ever dealt with when I sat at the computer. I kind of felt alienated everywhere else.

Folks who are cirrhotic are sure to post but my understanding is that an ultrasound can provide useful info is in the more advanced stages of fibrosis. It will be interesting to compare the results of this one with the one you had two years ago.

I know you are reluctant about treating. So many of us were in the beginning as well. The more you learn and interact with others who treated the more you will feel on solid ground about treating.
Glad you are doing OK :)
