NOT DETECTED-- One Year Post

Even though I was non-detectible at 9 months post treatment and my ALT seven days ago was 18, still took three VERY deep breaths as my email fax opened what seemed to be in slow motion this morning. One very excellent thing about Quest's "HCV RNA QL TMA" is that they actually present the result in English. Either your lab report says "DECTECTED" or it says "NOT DETECTED" and in BIG CAPITAL LETTERS. In my case it said, "NOT DETECTED". Hopefully, one day all labs will be required to report their results in such a clear fashion when possible.

Stats: 60 year-old former 1B, pre-tx viral load 1.5 million. Treated 54 weeks, 180 Pegasys Some double-dosing and high dose riba between weeks 2 and 5. Non-detectible via Heptimax at week 6. Difficult sides some which still persist. Main regret is that I didn't get a more current biopsy prior to treatment which may have allowed me to watch and wait. Three year old biopsy said stage 3 out of 4 but it was explained to me incorrectly as between stage 3 and 4. A later read of same biopsy slides put the stage between 2 and 3. That said, I'm grateful that my treatment resulted in what now appears to be a very durable SVR as other have not been so lucky and to them I extend my support and prayers.

Goofy and Ina -- You both should be one year post treatment by now. Maybe I missed your posts, but have you guys had your one year post treatment viral loads done yet? I'm sure Ina has, can never tell with the goofy guy :)

Be well,

-- Jim

How awesome! You have been such an inspiration to me, along with your knowledge. You will never know how much your time spent on the pc, answering our questions & giving advice has meant to all of us.

Please keep  informing us of your undetectables, and I am sure that they will remain so!

Hopefully we can still gain insight and share our problems with you! Although, you would probably like to wipe this out of your mind. I don't blame you. The roller coaster ride is pretty awful.

Congratulations Jim, you are a one- of -a -kind -special guy!

Whoo Whooo! Thank goodness for your UND! Of course, I had no doubt that this would happen, it still feels great to get this final test to reassure you. You have been so great to everyone here and done so much to help us all, I sure hope you aren't going anywhere (except maybe the Sushi Bar to meet Jack). I sure want you to never go away from us. For me, now that I am not on tx, it sort of feels like I have a family here and even if a dr. said I was clear for life, I wouldn't want to leave. Congrats Jim, let me know how those implants go....

To NYgirl; I don't see you today and I hope you are doing well. Wow, you and Jim were one of the first people to greet me here, over a year ago. I will never forget that. I have not given up on your SVR and I believe everyone here is rooting for that UND re test!

Just want to thank everyone for the congratulations and nice words. As mentioned, the non-detectible was expected based on prior testing, but still a relief and certainly a benchmark test that pretty much locks in SVR based on what I've read. Regarding Ina and the Almonds -- actually temporarily stopped eating all nuts (or associating with them for that matter) as I have cut down on insoluable fiber in general. Good luck with your acupuncture and do let me know how it works out. I assume they offered you Chinese herbs and you declined.

My hope and prayers for all those with this difficult disease, whether treating or not.

Be well,

-- Jim

Hey Jim!

Well, this confirms what we pretty much knew already, huh? Man, I wish you good health for the remainder, and hope your post-Tx issues self-resolve soon for you. It has been a pleasure to treat with you, and your hard-earned knowledge regarding all things HCV continues to be much appreciated by so many here.

Take real good care, my friend, and stay in touch

I keep forgetting to tell you, the acupuncturist said, that some otherwise healthy people can get get intestinal upset from almonds, like cramps, gas, bloating. Can't remember the name, but some chemical is in almonds that does not agree with all of us.
Maybe you eat too many almonds.
Oh, and people with diverticulosis should avoid them, is supposed to make the condition worse.
Now don't harp on me, I am only the messenger.

Just want to thank everyone for the nice words and especially to New York Girl for the laugh and compliment. What can be better than trying to save the world every Monday night? Speaking of which, NY's mention of "Jack" made me think of how one episode of "24" might play if JmJack was on treatment. LOL. (See next post but if you're not familiar and current with the TV show "24", it probably won't make a whole lot of sense.)

As to "MyOwn's" question on when I'll test next, I really don't know. Maybe in a year, maybe not, but knowing myself I probably will even though it probably is not  necessary unless something like liver enzymes seem to go awry. And speaking of enzymes, I get them checked as part of a normal health panel that includes cholesterol, etc, so for better or worse, I'll be seeing those results somewhat frequently especially if I go on statins or other meds that may require some liver enzyme monitoring.

And lastly, to New York Girl, who many of us haven't given up on her SVR. Hopefully, on re-test, we can give her back her customary "WOO HOO" that she has given to so many of us. Don't know about me being the Jack Bauer of treatment, but she is def the WonderWoman.

Bill to Chloe: Where's JmJack?  We've got a terrorist in holding who needs to be tortured right away to get the secret nuclear disarm code or the whole world will blow up in ten minutes.

Cloe: Jack's in the ER. Seems he overdosed on Ribavirin again.

Bill: We need Jack now. Get Milo and see if we have any assault teams in the vicinity armed with Procrit.

Chloe: Bill, I can't seem to find Milo.

Bill: I just saw him with Nadia.

Chloe: Morris just did a heat scan of CTU and two bodies seem to be in the gun closet. The computer has shown a definite match for Milo and Nadia.

Bill: Can you get any video?

Chloe: Bill, you're a dirty old man, but I did send Morris into the closet to extract Milo.

Bill: Hurry Chloe, we've got only five minutes before the world blows up.
---------------------------

Chloe: I think JimJack's coming in the door now.

Bill: JmJack, where the h*ll have you been. You only have two minutes left to save the world.

JmJack: Sorry Bill, but I had to break treatment protocol and take the whole d**n bottle of ribavirin and ended up in the ER again. If there's one thing I hate more than terrorists it's the d*mn virus.

Bill: We can catch up later on your HCV stories laterJack, but right now you only have thirty seconds left to torture the terrorist so the world won't blow up. The torture kit had been sent to holding.

Jack: Don't need the torture kit.  Got something better.

Bill: What's that, JmJack.

Jack: A syringe full of Pegasys.
