first injection, DONE!

I did my first injection of peg yesterday @ the hospital with a "trainer" (180 mcg).  Also began the Riba then (400mg 2xday).  You were all correct in that the pre-shot fears FAR out-weigh the actuality.  It was easier than I ever expected.  Yes, I was shaking so much that I nearly dropped the syringe, but I did it!  If I wasn't so anxiety-ridden about putting drugs into my body, I would have smiled, because just as I injected I had a flash of either MedicMommy or pKinCA telling me it goes in like butter!  It really does.  So strange!
I came home, actually had the house to myself, and took it easy; pulled my shades, lit my candles, put in a cd, and stayed in bed.  I did get chills, but not until late in the night.  I mostly felt dehydrated (regardless of the 80 + oz of water I drank) and very achy.  My joints and muscles hurt a bit, and my head hurt off and on.  I took the second dose of Riba around 5:30pm and it made me restless.  Not really jittery, just restless, unable to doze off, unable to concentrate.  The night was up & down.  LOTS of bathroom trips (go figure!).  Night sweats, followed by chills, and so on.

The 80 oz of water I have committed to drink each day has been NO problem thus far.  I am so thirsty all of the time.  Ditching the coffee was also no problem as the thought of it this morning made me nauseous.
Today I went to work and it was a very long day.  I am tired, sore, and achy.  Not to mention, FREEZING. (odd?)  I took my riba this morning with half a mini ww bagel and some almond butter.  I also drank a cute little Dannon shot immunity thing.  After that I was totally uninterested in the idea of food AT ALL.  I did make myself eat part of an avocado with triscuits for lunch.

I really must say that it has so far been mostly annoying, certainly not intense or unbearable.  Hopefully this will hold, though I know day #2 may be no indication of what is to come.

I hope everyone else is doing well out there!
Peace & positives to all!!!

LTIF, They asked the pirate, "why do you have a steerin' wheel stickin' outa yer fly?"  He winked, nodded and replied, "I'm drivin' me nuts".. I truly love the idea of 'therapals'.  Much more fun than a cruddy ol' sock.  My brother-law suffers so incredibly much with his RA, I'm gunna replace some of his 'beanie socks' with 'Thermapals', <(artists license?) You sure are a hoot when ya get goin' aren'tcha, cutie?  I said 'hoot', not 'hooters', all 15 of 'em!!! tee hee hee:))H's, Ant B

Thanks for the blow by blow descriptors - it really is nice to be prepared as I will be close behind you....gee getting nervous already.  I do have my electric blanky on most nights and I made these cute "Therapals" that are stuffed animals that I took the insides out and put corn or beans in and microwave...they lay over my shoulders and on my lap. I've got them lined up for double duty. I've used them for years with my RA being so relentless.

Keep the updates coming!!!!

Imr.... the pre-shot fears FAR out-weigh the actuality.......

Told ya so, told ya so !!!  :)
Congrats on the 1st one down. I so stressed on the 1st round, like you said, putting the drugs in you is so scarry (not just a 'shot'), which is why I always stress NOT to stress on it :)
Keep drinking the water, for a few weeks I had a hard time even drinking a lot of water, was forcing it but a huge difference when you don't (as I learned).

medicmommy...while I've (we've) also heard grapefruit can be good with tx, still check when taking any other meds (sleep aids, pain pill's, Xanax type drugs, etc.)
I have a tree FULL but decided I better not right now after a few post here and reading on it.

Good luck on shot 2 imr.

Yeppers! Grapefruit is actually on the recommended while txing list...it actually works with the riba, and helps break a link in the chain that lets the virus replicate...Pretty cool, huh?

congrats to you! hope you have happy trails...

Medicmommy: just wondering, and I always wonder about some of these precautions, but i have heard that grapefruit, and the juice, might interfere with many meds...did you look this up or ask your doctor? might be nothing....

Whoohoo! You are now an official member of the Happy hepper club! LOL...May your viral load "0" out soon! I have an electric blankie for my chills, and it is the most WONDERFUL thing...It can be cranked way up if needed...I like the bean sock idea too...I have things like fresh cubed fruits on standby in the fridge...food doesn't sound that great, but I've been craving melons and grapefruit...(((((((((((((((HUGZ))))))))))))))))))

P.S...A joke for the post shot pick-me-up...Q. What did one sagging breast say to the other?   A..If we don't get some support soon, people will think we're nuts!  :)

Way to go!!! I hear that first step is the hardest. Wouldn't know, as I don't start my tx til late summer, BUT......
For chills; try microwaving a white cotton sock, (1/2 full of dry UNCOOKED beans).  Put this between your feet. I hope this warms you up, cookie.  Hugs to you, Ant B

So glad to hear that injection went well!!   I would like to say a collective "we told you so!" from all of us here :-)

I cannot believe you worked all day on Tuesday!  I hope you're able to take as much time off as you need here and there... What are your work arrangements so far?  Have you scheduled any time off or gone to a reduced work week at least?  I hope so...

You're really smart to do small meals here and there... In my second week I think, I thought I would outsmart the dizziness by just eating huge amounts of food and turns out it didn't work... I would still need *something* every two hours... Now that I've figured that out, I have really reduced total amount of food consumed -- my street clothes were, ahem, "snug" to say the least :-)  While at home I don't get out of my sweats or jammies... no way!  Great way to pack on the lbs., let me add... :-)

Keep posting when you can... I know you're super busy... and then tomorrow you have your grandbaby overnight, right??

Have a great night, sleep well...

pK

PS  I have started taking .25 mg. Ativan (generic is Lorazepam) to sleep -- it's very nice -- just takes the edge off enough to have uninterrupted slumber.  The lowest dose they manufacture is .50, so I just bite the tabs in half... FYI, if you need something down the road...

Congratulations on your first shot! Yeah, its not as scary as we think its going to be. Needle does go in so easy. Sounds like you are going to be just fine.

Wish you the best and hope that you are SVR when finished tx.
