Can a PCR or NAAT test on genital sores detect Oral HSV1 ?

If a very large amount of discharge is present?

Because isn't HSV detected in bodily fluids?

No its not possible. herpes are in 3 areas in the body only. The genitals, the oral area and the hand. Tests are done with blood but dont say which area the blood came from. Most tests for NAAT swabs are from fluids from a speicfic area and are not normally done with blood.

Hi genital swabs have nothing to do with detecting oral hsv. Its PCR picks up DNA and blood tests pick up antibodies.

Thanks Dave. It's just that I believe that there are PCR blood tests and tests for a symptomatic patients also if you check NAAT testing details. So in theory it is very possible that a swab test on the genitals with discharge could detect an HSV infection elsewhere in the body.

Thanks.
