Can't tell if it's herpes, swab negative

Like most everyone else on here, I could really use some advice about whether or not what I have is herpes. Five months ago, I had protected sex with a friend who said he's tested negative for HSV-2 (I had a weird feeling he may have herpes, so I asked...) Found out later he thought he'd been tested for HSV-2 as part of standard STD panel, but hadn't.

Two days later, I get two red bumps on vulva, one clearly a pimple. The other not so obvious. Wasn't able to see gyno before vacation, so spent vacation obssessed with having herpes. Have serious irritation and yeast infection off and on for four months, doctor diagnosis bacterial vaginosis, prescribes Flagyll, and says I have no signs of herpes, just irritation. Five months later, I get 3 red bumps on inner thigh, and anus, and go to Planned Parenthood for 3rd opinion, doctor says doesn't look like herpes, runs swab (less than 48 hours after bump appeared) and it comes back negative.

However, I still have serious itching and burning along my bikini line and inner thighs. It's just not going away. Does this sound like herpes, even atypical, to you? For some reason, I'm scared to do death to get the blood test.

Any advice you can offer would be welcome! Thank you!

if you have a + igg for hsv2 then you are infected. The virus is active periodically whether you are aware of obvious lesions or not. make sense?

Thanks for your response, Grace! My only concern about the HSV-2 test is that it only guages whether you've been exposed at some point in your life, not if you've just had an active infection. However, I got one three years ago and it was negative, so I guess it's time to go that route again.

at this point getting a type specific herpes igg blood test is your next step.

if you still have itching and burning, be seen and get looked at again. herpes will not cause you to have symptoms like this for so long.
