Is oral herpes contagious before there are any blisters or sores?

I apparently had my first outbreak of oral herpes. It stared out with flu-like symptoms; fever, fatigue, headache. At the same time I had a sore throat. I have a 20 month old son and he got his hands on my cup that I was drinking out of. Later that evening is when I saw what looked like strep throat. Would this have been transmitted to my son?

The odds are your son is fine. Hsv symptoms never manifest the same day. Takes 2-10 days.
