Constent Outbreaks

I found out 3yrs ago I had genital herpes. Since then I have had more and more outbreaks. I was taking Valtex when I would feel the onset and it would help(about twice a month) I then decieded to start taking it daily and have been for the last yr. I still have the itching, redness, soreness, anal itching and some surface sores even though I was taking the Valtrex daily. My insurance will not cover the Valtrex so now I am taking Valacyclovir(1 gram) daily. Do I need to take it twice a day? I really can't take the constent soreness, itching and pain almost daily and need some help.

As was stated consider looking into other causes of whats going on.  Just because you have herpes doesn't mean everything going on in that location is HSV.

As for protection the numbers are right with the use of a condom, daily suppresive therapy, and avoiding sexual contact anytime anything genital is going on will provide the best results.  There is no way to achieve 100% no risk to your partner.  It can't be done at all.  The virus will still shed with no symptoms and you will never know when that is going on.

I am not that great with the medication dosages (I leave those to grace or petal) and my advice would be to continue to follow your prescription recommendations until grace gets a chance to respond.  At this point you are doing the best you can to protect your husband.  But your job now is to find out what is going on.

Again, what is the very best way to protect my husband from my hsv1 & 2?  We both were tested before I took Valtrex which I am on presently 500mg 2x day.  Taken for 3-4yrs.. I think.  The percentages are: with daily Valtrex and condom use=99% he will NOT get either of the herpes;  with the Valtrex but without condom=98% he will NOT get it.  (GREAT odds I must say!  Please check me if theses %s are correct.  Where does one get a female condom?  Do they award even better protection than a male condom?  Even though I've had no outbreaks that I can tell in a very long time(1-2yrs.), when I did the first couple of times the perineal area towards the anus was affected also. Would it behoove us that I take the Valtrex 3x day?  Since I find I cannot stick to the same specific times to administer it to myself, would 1500mg per day harm me?  (No kidney problems.)  Or since I did have trouble early on of still getting outbreaks while taking 2 per day in the first yr. or so, best to take 2000mg per day?  I will check dosages with my physician.  Just would like your opinion.  Thank you.

valtrex is valacylovir dear. it came out in a generic form a few months ago.

even though you have herpes, not everything that goes on is due to herpes. see your provider for a thorough work up to see what else is going on.   control what else is going on and your herpes should also settle down.
