Herpes or folliculitis?

I have red bumps on my penis, scrotum and pubic area. They are somewhat scabbed and itch a little. They also have a dimple or pustule in the center. The affected areas are also a little rashy.  I went to the doctor and he thought it was probably folliculitis, but possibly herpes. Can you get folliculitis on the shaft of your penis? Please help! Thanks

folliculitis is just an infection/inflammation of the hair follicles. you have hair follicles everywhere, including the shaft of your penis.

your partner should be tested too while herpes is on your mind. did you both cover other std bases too before starting to have unprotected sex?

Thank you for your help, Grace! I was just tested today. They said the results will be back in a week. I do have a regular partner, but we just stopped using a condom a couple of weeks ago. What makes you think it isn't herpes? Thanks

this is not the doctor's forum - you have to pay to post there.

in our read before posting post on the forum, we explain why we don't look at pictures here. None of the std experts on medhelp look at them either.

odds are these are not herpes.  continue to follow up with your provider as needed.

have you ever been tested for herpes before? do you have a regular partner?
