Potential Herpes

Hello All,

I recently had unprotected sex Saturday morning. Later that Saturday night and Sunday morning, the area just under the tip of my penis was very sensitive and raw, almost as if it had been overworked or overstretched. Additionally, on Tuesday morning I noticed two or three red bumps on the upper part of the shaft of my penis in an area separate from the raw area. Each of these bumps has a hair protruding from it. The bumps are not sore nor have they given off any liquid or pus, and have been decreasing in size and color since I saw them Tuesday. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he said that the rawness looks like simple irritation from the sexual relations. However, he said that the red bumps may be herpes. He ran a blood test and swabbed the bumps and the results are purportedly coming in tomorrow, but I am overly worried at the moment that this may be HSV-2. Can anyone please provide me with guidance? Thank you.

Dave,

The doctor gave me the full STD screen (swabs and blood work) and the test results came back NEGATIVE for everything. No HSV-1, HSV-2, or any other STD for that matter. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for the quick response!  I am inclined to think that this is more likely folliculitis like you suggested, but I am not the type of person to risk it without knowing for sure. The lack of pain and lack of liquid from the bumps makes me think it is folliculitis or just plain old irritation, but I'll leave the final determination up to the doctor. I will definitely let you know the outcome of the tests.

Thank you again.

Hi, If she did not have any visible sore present the chances you contracted herpes is very low as shedding does not occur that often. Also 3 days is really  on the border of breakout symptoms.
The symptom time is 3 to 12 days but it does take time for the virus to multiply, travel through the nerve to the base of you spine then travel back up to you upper shaft.

Also getting them on the upper shaft, it would be more likely to get them on your pubic region as most herpes are in that area not inside the vagina.
Also most herpes are not red bumps but clear liquid clusters.
Many times with a new infection of herpes esp hsv2, there is a body reaction like a fever and body aches as the immune system is launching a defense building antibodies.

With the hair protruding i would think they are inflamed hair folicles than herpes lesions. But do let us know the results.
