Herpes & HIV

Hello, I was diagnosed with genital herpes 3 months ago. I have done some reading on the Internet and I've read that having herpes increases your chances of contracting HIV even without having any break outs. Is this true? I feel like I can never have sec again because everything that I'm reading is scaring me more and more.

Hey don't worry I have this virus too. It has been 2 years. When I know this I was shocked either. And I heard about never cured of this virus. So after that I always eat health food, exercise and try to be positive thinker that might be 30% helped but every month before having period... Herpes always comes to me.. It's will never ever gone. But don't worry we are the same. Not only you. I'm here with you.

Why is that? Even if we wear condoms? is HIV easily transmitted because herpes causes my immune system to be compromised or is it because the skin where the sores never really heals?

yes, if your partner is hiv +.  The risk is higher whether you have obvious symptoms or not.

Since I have herpes, does that increase my chances of contracting HIV if I use condoms for penetrative sex, giving and receiving, even without an outbreak?

even though the risk of any std from receiving oral is rather low, we still always recommend protected oral sex, both giving and receiving if you aren't aware of a partners status.

Really? What changes does it cause for it to contract HIV easier? I always wear condoms but now hearing this, I fear it's not good enough. how safe is it to receive oral sex without wearing a condom?

yes having hsv2 genitally increases the risk of contracting hiv if your partner has hiv.  hsv2 genital infections cause changes in the genital area that make it easier to get infected with hiv.

always ask your partners to get full std testing and also always use condoms until you are sure it's a long term monogamous relationship and are sure of their test results.
